The original "Tremors" was a great movie. "Tremors 2" is a different movie than the first. The first was a mix of sci-fi and horror with a very light hearted atmosphere and plenty of comedy worked in. The sequel changes this formula significantly. "Tremors 2" is comedy first, before anything else and has a different feel than the first. So much so, that in fact at many times it's impossible to take the movie seriously at all - something the first movie was not guilty of. At any rate "Tremors 2" does succeed in this respect as being an effective comedy monster action movie. You'll have to have seen the first to really appreciate the movie, as much of the funniest scenes are based around what everyone loved about the first (Burt's military obsessions and new found paranoias, and Earl's personality).CGI is introduced to the series here. Fortunately it's only used very sparingly when the mini Graboids run or jump. Otherwise they're decent looking puppet creatures. These creatures take up the second half of the film. The original Graboids make a complete exit about an hour into the film and our gang is left to deal with the land walking creatures. Through a good story and some funny moments courtesy of the original writing team and good monster FX, this ends up being a very worthy sequel. Sure, it's not as good as the first film, but working with what they have, I'd say they pulled it off wonderfully.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.

Usually I'm always very sceptical of sequels, and I'm sure most people are, uncertain of whether the movie is going to give us new and exciting material, give us new and terrible material, or just be a retread of the original movie. Tremors 2 thankfully is in the first category, adding new characters, new story lines, a new location and a new stage in the evolution of the horrible subterranean meanies! What's the Rye? In Mexico, an oil refinery comes under attack by the gigantic underground worms known as the Graboids, and the refinery's owner calls upon the assistance of Earl to help make them extinct once again. Although reluctant at first, Earl is penniless due to bad dealings, and thus takes up the challenge, with the help of his new friend, a taxi driver (interesting accomplice). Together they go down to Mexico and start blasting the worms to pieces, calling in the assistance of survivalist Burt Gummer when it's found that there are far more worms than they originally thought. However, things go awry when the worms suddenly start to die, with a new and even more terrifying set of creatures appearing to have burst from their carcasses! So, the good things. Pretty much everything if I'm honest! The film takes the story in a whole new direction with the introduction of the new creatures and the new location. Although many may find the lack of Val a downgrade, Earl seems to hold the movie up well on his own, with the assistance of Burt and his Taxi Driver friend. Indeed there is a rather convenient love story thrown abruptly into the mix, but there is a grounded chemistry between the two.The animatronics have been upgraded, and although what little CGI is used in this movie is rather ropey, it's clear a lot of effort went into this film.Overall, I love this movie! As an action packed thriller in pursuit of bloodthirsty worms, with all the explosions, expletives and good humour of the first movie, I'd call this a faithful retelling of a fun story!

Even without Kevin Bacon, I thought the second movie was just as good as the first.Fred Ward, Michael Gross, and the other actors were able to carry on from the first movie, and bring additional elements to the ongoing saga of the horrible Graboids that lurk under the ground. If anything, I thought the second movie was actually better in parts, because the creatures have evolved into something altogether worse than in the first film, and our intrepid heroes have to deal with it.I also liked how Fred had to move on without his sidekick, (or was it the other way around)Kevin Bacon, and now he is the one with a sidekick in Grady Hoover, who idolizes Fred as the "stud" Graboid hunter. And of course what can you say about Michael Gross? Just kills it here too.
