This movie is the way movies should be made. No frills, no full- of- himself muscly lead actor, no mind-numbing extended CGI sequences where it is obvious all the money in the budget went to special effects. All this movie did to be great was to instill a fear in us of a big white rogue shark and make you feel like you were safe on land or on a boat until you aren't. Yes. This movie puts you right into the experience. The characters are all so varied and present and some you like, some you don't like, some you kind of like. And then when the movie starts heading toward the midpoint and toward the climax, when those barrels start flinging off the ship and almost hits one of our guys in the head, i actually screamed. In fact, there were many times that this movie made me cry aloud out of actual fear. This movie is the actual reason I will never go swimming in the ocean. It is the mark of a good film to have this much of an impact on audience. 10/10 Well done, Mr. Spielberg, never change.

So like I said in the title, Jaws is pretty overrated. The movie is overall pretty boring, and the only reason this got better than 3 stars was that the shark attacks in the beginning middle and end kept it interesting and scary. I first watched this movie at 8 years old, and could t go in the ocean for a good year after that. To an 8 year old, of course it's a lot scarier than to my current age, and the movies that are it in this day and age. Summary: If you love shark movies and don't mind it when a film is slow, than I would a hundred percent recommend this Spielberg classic. If you hate slow movies, honestly don't waste your time

Perhaps I am showing my age because I found it a chore to sit through Jaws every time I tried to watch it. Jaws was the first blockbuster and it is indeed a rousing sea adventure but the way it goes about it seemed rather pedestrian to me. The shot selection and camerawork is great- which is a given fact as this is Steven Spielberg we speak of. The acting is great throughout and the trio of Chief Brady, Hooper and Quint have become a fixation of cinema pop culture over the years, primarily because their banter and experience aboard the Orca is what most people remember. And of course the Shark itself which is probably even more scarier than movie monsters because they actually exist.

Up until now I've only ever seen Jaws on the TV, and only in 4:3 aspect in poor quality. I've just seen it on Netflix. It is in proper aspect ratio, in good quality, anf my sound system is also doing it justice. The story and the acting is still just as great, but I've never realised just how good the film work is. By modern standards the film is a bit slow, but that is the only reason I gave it 9 rather than 10, and I'm sure that I wasn't fair in doing that. What more can you say than it has one of the lines in any film, ever. You know the one!
