This is quite possibly one of the worst films I have ever had the displeasure of seeing, I don't know what made me want to see this, but everyone was saying how terrible it was so I had to see what the fuss was about. And I should have just stayed at home, this wasn't even remotely fun, or funny. The character are awful with no interest or morals. The animation is atrocious, and looks like a five year old did it, I actually a five year old could do better. I mean, my gosh talk about getting all the joy sucked out of me in the very intent the movie comes on. I'm serious avoid this at all costs, unless you want to see what the fuss is about, then go ahead, but I will warn you, this is a 20 dollar bill you will never get back. After this I will say I'm glad I own How to Train Your Dragon, because after watching this piece of horse manure I needed to get my faith back into animation. I needed something to get my mind off this terrible excuse of a movie. Lets hope this is the last time we get an animated film this bad well at least in a long time. And the last thing, should kids see this? No. Not that its bad with inappropriate innuendos or jokes, its just kids will get bored with this. The kids in my theater were running up and down the aisle and a family sitting next to me left the theater. So if the film's target audience is in disarray, then imagine how you will feel, and how I felt watching this awful, disgusting, mess of a film. The animation is unimpressive, story sucks and its not original, there is no memorable scenes or lines, and makes Madagascar, Ice Age and Anastasia look like they never existed. THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE WHOLE WORLD!!!! Oh, and those rodent characters that try to be the minions, I have one thing to say. Screw you!!!! Now to grade. Animation: F- Characters: F Story: D+ For Kids: No Music: C- Voice Acting: F Overall: F-. So yeah. It really is a ripoff of Madagascar, Ice Age, Anastasia and The Lion King!! That's why is sucks GARBAGE!!!!

Probably contains some spoilers, but the plot is so predictable it's not like there's much to spoil. I watched this film for the first time shortly after it was released in 2006, during the relative lull in Disney proper's output, between the end of the "Renaissance" with Tarzan and their return to the mainstream with Princess and the Frog and Tangled. During this time, Pixar flourished, but Disney came out with such flops as Home on the Range and Chicken Little. This is from a sub-studio of Disney (it's not part of the proper cannon). I recall watching this as a fairly young kid and deciding it was worse than the comparable Madagascar but not horrible. I'll start with the plot. YMMV, but I think it's exactly Madagascar with elements of Finding Nemo and the Lion King. I know Madagascar and The Wild came out at about the same time, but without question Madagascar won this fight. Madagascar didn't feel like it was ripping off other Dreamworks films, or Disney. Where Madagascar had characters I enjoyed being around, this gang seems too clichéd to be likable. Let's see, there's a koala (Nigel - Eddie Izzard) who was at times generally funny but kinda seemed like the creators were trying to push him to be this film's Olaf or Genie - pushing a breakout character is not a good idea, and I tired of Nigel quickly. There's a squirrel (Benny - Jim Belushi) that disappeared for some strange reason for about 20-30 minutes in the middle of the film and reappears in a weird way and time that I never really got to know. Then there's the only girl in the entire film, a giraffe (Bridget - Janeane Garofalo) acts like you expect the only girl to act, and that stupid snake (Larry - Richard Kind) weighed everything down, and the two of them disappear weirdly for another 20-30 minutes near the end. The heroes, lions Samson (Kiefer Sutherland) and Ryan (Greg Cipes) were generic and forgettable. I'll give them that the wildebeest dance team villains were at least something I've never seen before, but that doesn't make them good villains, which they aren't. The animation is kinda off putting - feels a little animal uncanny- valley-like. Nothing horrible, but nothing great. The comedy fell a little flat. Nigel was pushed as the comic center and thus became it as the only character with any real jokes. Samson, Ryan, and the others didn't feel like very good straight men as they weren't very good comics either. The one line I laughed at came from Bridget on the purpose of giraffes - when Nigel was miles away from them. All in all, not a very good film, but I'd say it's watchable. It's probably not worth your money, but maybe if it's on the Disney Channel. But don't expect anything that good. If you don't want to watch them both, watch Madagascar.

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood when I was watching this. Maybe I have seen too many cartoon gags. Whatever it was, I found most of the gags not really funny. I didn't really connect with the characters either. The animation is very beautifully done, but as another reviewer described it, "soulless". Many scenes feel as fillers, detached from the main plot. The last half hour the mood changes from funny to serious and scary. while that part still has some very funny aspects to it, it reminded me a lot of the "be prepared" song in the Lion King, the only part of that movie that I hated. All in all an OK movie. Not boring, not memorable.

As I have said many times I love animated films and I love Disney, and this did look interesting. However, it turned out to be one of my least favourite Disney films, not the worst mind but still. Starting with the good things, the animation is absolutely wonderful. The colours are gorgeous, and the character designs are much better than the ones in Chicken Little in my opinion. The soundtrack was very nice as well, and the voice acting on the whole is excellent especially from Kiefer Sutherland, Jim Belushi and Eddie Izzard, who coincidentally voice the most interesting characters in the movie. I also liked the lively bickering between the animals. However, despite these strong points The Wild has some failures. The story is very predictable and has a lot of derivative elements, and while this is not a bad thing I did see a fair amount of Madagascar, Finding Nemo and Ice Age here. Speaking of the story, the final twenty minutes for me were lame, and the moralising got rather heavy-handed. And while I appreciated that it went briskly, the pacing did get a little too fast in places, no surprises really seeing as the film is too short. So, in conclusion, not bad but not good either. 5/10 Bethany Cox
