I seen this 2 years ago with my little brother in the cinemas and we both enjoyed it. If you seen the first one then its pretty much the same contrived plot. The Smurfs are back and this time they are back in New York City and meet Patrick and Grace who are now parents to a little boy named Blue(yeah what a name to give a child right).Anyway Patrick's Irish dad is back on the scene(our very own Brendan Glesson from the Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire)and his trying to get things straight with his son(Neil Patrick Harris). Of course Smurfette(voiced by Katy Perry) ends up getting kidnapped and meets new Smurfs(one voiced by Casper's Christina Ricci)as Garagmel(the brilliant Hank Azaria)wants to turn smurfs evil again and wants Smurfette to be bad (as he created her in the first place and Pappa Smurf changed her into a good person. So its up to the other Smurfs to save Smurfette from Garagmel who is in Paris as all the gang go to Paris this time as the film isn't really set in NYC this time compare to the first movie. This film is really stupid. Its not suppose to be a film taken seriously but hey I actually kinda like this film. Yes its for kids but I enjoyed it anyways. If you got younger kids at home or if you are a big child at heart(like myself) then check it out.Pretty much the same as the first movie a 5 out of 10.Best part: I suppose the smurfs are back. And parts of the film is funny Worst part: A very contrived film2.6/5

The director made this film just for kids in mind, without a thought about the adults that have to sit through it with there little ones. I should have known what to expect after seeing the first one, but I was hoping that there would have been something for us people without kids. The CGI was done well, but the storyline was terrible and extremely unrealistic. Maybe they shouldn't use real people next time and just keep it in Smurf la la land! Round-Up: It was weird seeing Brendan Gleeson making a fool of himself throughout the movie, but I'm sure that it won't hurt his career. Neil Patrick Harris is acting the same as he did in the first one so there wasn't that much surprise with his contribution. The new Smurfs that are in this film weren't bad and Gargarmel is up to his usual tricks, trying to capture the Smurfs, but I ended up falling asleep after a while. It's not a bad movie to put on if you want to keep the kids quiet, and judging by the money that it made, I'm sure that your going to see a third one in this franchise, but I'm hoping that they will give it to a different director.Budget: $105million (On What!) Worldwide Gross: $348millionI recommend this movie to kids who are into the Smurfs and silly comedies with mini Avatars. 2/10
... View MoreWhen you will watch the fun generated by The Smurfs , you will be bounded by same amount of expectations from The Smurfs 2. Unfortunately , it is bit disappointing in terms of fun and adventure.Smurfette is kidnapped by the evil-spirited Gargamel to find the secret spell through which he will turn the Naughties into the real smurfs. The Smurfs must travel to human world to rescue her before the secret spell is divulged out. From the same director Raja Gosnell , The Smurfs 2 loses the steam it generated from the first part and the curiosity to watch it further will die down. The visual effects are breath-taking as it is a magical bound film. The direction is weak. Screenplay could not hold your attention. Cinematography is vibrant. Art direction is good. Background score gels well with the mood of the film. It is Hank Azaria who stands out as the selfish and cunning magician. He is superb to watch and will tickle your funny bone along with his hilarious moments with his talking cat. Overall , I was slightly disappointed with the sequel. If you are looking to make your kid happy, The Smurfs 2 might be the right appetizer. ... View More. . . SMURFS 2 does NOT feature any spinning whirly-gigs attached to the character voiced by Perry--Smurfette--'s Whatzits (unlike the concert movie she released earlier in the year). Besides the relative restraint in Smurfette's wardrobe, this film features another passable lead acting performance by Mr. Krinkle as Azrael (Gargamel's cat). While it is true Frank Welker dubs in most of Azrael's vocalizations, I suspect that Mr. Krinkle's acting abilities would stand head and shoulders above the rest of the cast even without the interference of the Loop Group. Jimmy Kimmel is typecast here as the voice of the Passive-Aggressive Smurf, and the same can be said for most of the other questionable Smurf voice "talent," including X Games vet Shaun White as Crazy Smurf, offender registry stalwart Paul Ruebens as Jokey Smurf, one-time NBA genii Shaquille O'Neal as Smooth Smurf (say THAT 10 times fast!), tool guy Jeff Foxworthy as Handy Smurf, and so on. If you're not already in a persistent vegetative state, SMURFS 2 just might do the trick!
