With such a story, a good director could make an interesting and true horror/thriller. Unfortunately, the film is too slow and to death boring. As to horror, it's better not to speak about. Completely laughable. Truly a missed opportunity to make a good film. Instead, we see a pathetic remake of the original Japanese film "Ringu" (1998).

RING is most famous Japanese horror film of all time, so this South Korean version of the same story has its work cut out. The narrative framework and scope of the storyline is almost exactly the same as in the Japanese movie, although there are a few differences, some of them crucial. One of the most notable things about this movie is that it sits more in the mystery/thriller genre, only hinting at horror in the occasional scene rather than dwelling on it as in the other movie.Sadly, it turns out to be a disappointing watch, doubly so if you know the Japanese version off by heart. Where Hideo Nakata excelled in creating protracted sequences of drawn-out dread, THE RING VIRUS feels stately and slightly dull in comparison. Yes, there's a moment involving a television but it's nowhere near as petrifying as when Nakata did it. The cast and crew go through the motions of the story in a linear fashion without it ever fully engaging the senses; scary this isn't. Director Kim Dong-bin lacks the technical flourishes and sense of style that other Korean directors have brought to their work; the resultant film is passable rather than effective.

This is the South Korean remake of the Japanese movie Ringu. This is no were near as good or even as scary, as the original it creepy moments,I liked the new things adied, that were not in the Ringu.Added a lot from the book, might sound good, sometimes I think less is better, as I felt some scenes, drag for way too long, i was nodding off for few seconds. The acting was decent, from the whole castI would say the US remake is better then this movie but Ringu will always be the scariest of them all!.4 OUT OF OF 10

I saw Ring a couple of days before Halloween when a couple of friends and i were watching some scary movies. The subtitles made me doubt how scary it could be....i was wrong. Ring is an amazing film. Generally it isn't very scary for the most part but the last ten minutes or so scared the life out of me.The names of the characters get confusing so I'm only going to mention one.Basic plot: A journalist is investigating rumors spreading through the teenagers in her area about a video tape. Rumor has it that if you watch the tape, your phone rings soon after and then 7 days later you die. She discovers that a few teenagers have died after watching it, including her own cousin. The journalist then goes to the cabin where the girl saw the video and finds it herself. she watches it and sure enough the phone rings. She has 7 days to find a way to stay alive. With the help of her ex-husband who also views the tape she aims to do this. They discover the sad and also horrifying story of Sadako, the daughter of a psychic.Believe me when i say this movie is scary. It is horrific and the thought of the ten minute clip that i don't want to spoil for anyone, still makes me shudder. (I just want to say, you'll never view TV the same way after watching it)Be warned: Watch this film with the phone off the hook, because if it rings after you've watched it... *shudder*Rakel xxx
