Watched this with my kids (Aged 5, 10 and 13). They all loved it, laughing and rewinding parts to see again and again. I expected little but, ended up loving it. Pretty funny. Similar style to "Flushed Away" - witty, fun and a great adventure
... View MorePirate Captain leads a pirate ship full of clumsy characters who support him in whatever he does. Too bad that he's not much different from them and as a result, he's never won anything in his entire career. So, determined more than ever to win the Pirate of the Year award, he sets out to find the biggest treasure he can find. Unfortunately, his stubborn and foolish personality leads him into various traps from which he must escape over and over again (with the irreplaceable help of Number Two) hopefully achieving his goal until the end. It's an entertaining piece of animation, determined to put a smile on your face with almost everything it does. Regrettably, it's being let down by a quite superficial and predictable story. It is enjoyable throughout the picture and lovely animated making it a good animated comedy overall.
... View MoreIt's 1837, England rules the seas with the exception of pirates around the Caribbean. The Pirate Captain wants to win the Pirate of the Year Award after 20 years of losing. He and his weird pathetic crew must out pirate the best out there including Black Bellamy, Peg Leg Hastings and Cutlass Liz. The other pirates make fun of them. Then they capture Charles Darwin and his ship. Darwin notices that the Captain's parrot is actually a DoDo.From Aardman Animations, it has the same look and the same earnest sarcastic sense of humor. However it's a bit repetitive after awhile with the constant stream of similar tone jokes. The title is horrible and they need to give the Pirate Captain a better name. The movie picks up a bit more comically with Darwin. The Captain and Darwin have some good fun chemistry. The comedy however may not be everybody's taste.

View MoreAlthough I'm a fan of the "Wallace & Gromit" short films I must admit to being disappointed by the longer made feature films from Aardman Animation (Both "Chicken Run" & "Curse of the Wererabbit" left me a bit cold) so colour me surprised when I picked this up as an impulse buy, popped it into my machine and found myself simply shocked as to how much I enjoyed it.THE PIRATES in AN ADVENTURE with SCIENTISTS is without doubt the BEST British Animated Film of ALL-TIME and these Pirates would put up a great fight with most others.Hugh Grant is awesome as the Pirate Captain as is the hilarious Imelda Staunton as Queen Victoria.Your kids are gonna love the MONKEY too. This movie is always amusing and is filled with great humour & characters, the imagination of the makers runs riot in this film & the animation (mainly stop-motion in the same brilliant vain as Ray Harryhausen's) is nothing short of brilliant.Had I not made this impulsive buy I might have had to wait years to have seen this truly amazing film (it probably helps if your British or a fan of British culture but I still think the humour is World-Wide) Who would have thought a cheap impulse buy would have turned out to be one of my all-time favourite films...for I shall watch this MANY MANY MANY Times in the future as i'm sure there's tons of jokes, quips and in-jokes that I missed first time around.THIS IS A BEAUTY & Rates as one of the BEST Children's / Family Films I've ever seen.If your British expect to see this on Christmas Day on BBC1 probably around 2015 as it's one for ALL the Family to enjoy.WELL DONE AARDMAN ANIMATION....Any chance of a PIRATES 2?
