This movie seems to be trying to be a Indiana Jones style movie and while it works in some ways, the acting is so bad that by the end of it it was making me wince. It is not just the acting though but the premise seems to be a bit lame to me. Indiana Jones was a university professor who happens to be a part time adventurer, while Flynn is a perpetual student who is kicked out of university so that he can learn from real life, and ends up being employed by a mysterious library that collects mythical artifacts, and put into the position as 'The Librarian'.There is not really all that much to say about this movie with the exception that it does deliver on the action and adventure scenes, however I am surprised that experienced actors like Bob Newhart come across so bland and shallow. However I suspect that it has a lot to do with the script that they were working with. Even then this should not be an excuse since experienced actors should be able to have a lot of input into the script so that they can mould it to end up suiting the characters that they play – the actor is the essence of the character, so a good actor should be able to rework the script to be able to give that character essence.I have also noticed that this is a made for television movie, though that should not be an excuse for bad acting and bad directing. I have seen some pretty good television shows with some pretty good acting in them. Big Bang Theory is one of them, though I suspect actors in the TV series have a lot more to work with, and television movies probably have a lot more budget constraints. Anyway, if you can put up with the bad acting and the corny back story, and a like a good adventure movie, then give this one ago, otherwise leave it on the shelf with all of the other bad movies.

So I just saw this movie; only 7 years after it's release...As the last reviewer mentioned, it has a lot of typical Indiana Jones' "things" to it; riddles, conspiracies, ancient secret artifacts, and of course the same kind of humor, amongst other. All of which makes it a quite entertaining and enjoyable family movie. I must say that I'm a sucker for adventures like the ones the movies characters are going on. Probably brings me back to my childhood fantasies. You know: Being the brave and smart hero, saving the world, and getting the girl. All of these things make me forgive the extremely lousy fight scenes, all the fake studio-shot outdoor scenes, the unrealistic animations, and bad key-framing.But for me a movie is fortunately not just a science in making the viewer believing that the story is true. It is all about bringing me into a wonderful new adventure, where everything is possible, and only hindered by the movie makers fantasies. It is now 1.22 am, and I'm about to watch The Librarian 2. Hope I will enjoy jet another "cosy" reality flight.

I have enjoyed all of the films in The Librarian series, but so far the first one "Quest for the Spear" is (in my opinion) the best. Noah Wyle, Olympia Dukakis, Bob Newhart and Jane Curtain are especially wonderful in this. The film has a lot of entertaining and original concepts, with good to excellent dialog, a decent plot, plenty of action and humor, beautiful sets and great special effects, all of which I loved. The film definitely camps it up in a few spots and even devolves into something of an Indiana Jones parody in a few scenes - in my opinion this doesn't quite work and would have been better either left out or pushed with some tongue-in-cheek IJ references, but on the whole the film is good enough (and different enough) to get past that. "Quest for the Spear" is definitely several levels above most made for TV movies and, while it is not an A+ (like all the Indiana Jones movies), it is at least a solid B movie - and I personally give it an A-. Lots of fun and definitely recommended. And yes, it is a great family film which manages to be reasonably funny and intelligent without ever having to throw in the bathroom toilet to get there.

if we allow the magic and wonder to manifest! my favorite...a comedy? romantic/ adventure movie. a great and complementary cast. a cast such as this makes it an extra special film right from the get go. another movie that blends history and fiction it such a adventurous way that it undoubtedly leads people to understand that such sought after "relics" and treasures as the holy grail, spear of destiny, Excalibur, and others are metaphors for the mystical and spiritual...and is done in a heck of a more fun way than those literal dry, boring stories in religious or history books/movies! and if people take special attention they will have the sense (as in so many movies) that the girl and boy have "known" each other before...almost always recognized by the girl first. have fun with this lighthearted movie and contemplate on how much fun it would be to be engaged with your own adventurous quest!the only reason i gave this an nine instead of a ten is probably just for the fact that they didn't have the huge budget some of these films have for specisl effects. and i really wish these movies i review would get the exposure they deserve.
