A world where 2011's The Thing reboot exists is arguably a worse world than one where its titular monster is real and eating us all. Old film franchises brought back from the dead to make a quick buck almost never end well. To this day the only one that lived up to its original glory was Mad Max Fury Road. The Crazies' 37 year revival wasn't as amazing as Mad Max Fury Road, but at least it wasn't The Thing, or Terminator Genysis; and this is partially because Romero was actually involved in its creation. Sure he wasn't a director, but since most horror remakes are done without any real talk with the original director, it's a blessing here. The film concept isn't quite a zombie concept, but the film sure as hell acts like one. Its score is decent, cinematography is nice, the acting and script are well done even if they take a bit of liberties with reality. Overall it's a nice film to see.

I have to say this is better then the original because it had lots of jumpscares, the scary theme, best characters and good storyline which makes you want to be glued at. The original was rather grainy, didn't have the story to be excited about and the acting wasn't brilliant tbh. I like the fact it included a sheriff, his wife, his deputy and the neighbour. They did such great teamwork in killing the infected people who act like zombies. Unfortunately the deputy and the neighbour died from the crazies or the police. At least the couple lived but still it can be upsetting that people are getting killed or accidentally killed because they thought they had the disease. I wish we could see a sequel because this was brilliant to watch!

This remake takes the plot line of classic horror story and elevates it above the norm for the genre with the use of tight pacing, good acting and great cinematography. This is a tried-and-true formula movie of friends and neighbors strangely turning into murderous "zombies" due to some unknown infection and how our heroes survive despite all odds. The original was made in 1973 and, true to the era, casts the government as the bad guys - having created this infection as a biological weapon. The original movie split the point-of-view between the townspeople and the government agents so the plot was more apparent from both sides. The remake keeps the same antagonist but does not try to reveal the government's plans or voice the government's justification for the actions undertaken. The result is that the heroes and the audience are kept in the dark for a longer period and the tensions are increased accordingly. One point of differentiation between this movie and other "zombie" movies is that the creatures do not seek to eat the flesh of the humans (thereby reducing the gore factor but there is still plenty of scene that are unsettling) and retain a sense of their actions (allowing them to seek revenge and work in teams). Yes, teams of zombies working together. Scary. While I generally do not like horror movies, I would almost classify this more as a thriller with some sic-fi and horror elements. And the elements work quite well together. For my other movie reviews, please visit:https://nomorewastedmovienights.wordpress.com

This was pretty good, and in this day and age good enough you'd think it was an original. Considering the abundance of horror remakes in the past couple of years, the original "The Crazies" (1973) was a film that sadly never took off. It was from George A. Romero's filmography and even though it was super low budget, it was a pretty interesting look and take at the macabre of how people could turn on others so easily. And how warfare is essentially tested on each other in strange ways. But upon hearing of this being remade, I could not help but think "another one"? Don't get me wrong, but so many obviously flop. I had the same thought when they remade "Dawn Of The Dead" (2004), and although it wasn't spectacular, it had Zack Snyder's visual flair and did do a pretty solid job.Luckily for us. "The Crazies" manages to do a great job by using very good actors, as well as stacking the odds and isolation of the situation against them. Why horror is always failing recently is why would you care who died if you didn't get into the characters personalities? Obviously they are apparently nothing but bodies to be gouged and mutilated, and each new film tries to one-up each other. Which is why I say good on "The Crazies". It has characters that descend into madness, discover redemption, and strive through isolation that keeps a moderate pace throughout.Final Verdict: Pretty good pacing, and pretty good characters. 6.5/10.
