This movie had pretty much everything it should. The photography and scenery were very beautifully done. The cast was fun and varied, Cole Hauser especially was very intense and captivating and carried the movie well. There was plenty of suspense, horror, adventure, action, monsters, 3D graphics, the whole range. But a lot of people whine "Its just like Alien". While there are some similar elements between to two, I didn't think of Alien while watching it, and I've seen this movie a few times. Its hard to make a monster movie that DOESN'T have elements in common with others. After seeing some truly miserable movies that people give high marks too, I don't follow the low marks this movie got unless most of the self-important reviewers were from the "Shakespeare in the Park" set. This movie did what it set out to do, and in a fun picturesque way.
... View MoreThis is one weird combination of movie factors. The Cave features a stunning cast of high-profile actors like Lena Headey and Cole Hauser, yet manages to drag them through a rather narrow (no pun intended) script of a horror movie.I've read it in other reviews before and, after watching it, I have to agree: The Cave boasts some incredibly detailed and believable sceneries, but doesn't give the audience the time to take it all in. The cave system is huge and very intimidating, but the fast action cuts make it hard to feel the claustrophobia. The one thing that really bothered me is the daylight illumination of some scenes. A couple of flashlights simply cannot do this, as shown very well in The Descent. It wouldn't be so bad if they stayed with it throughout the movie, but one scene that seems like they're standing in daylight is suddenly darkened to an appropriate level the moment the camera perspective changes. It is still a very enjoyable movie, if only to see the later Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones and Johns from Pitch Black fight for their lives in skintight diving suits.
... View MoreI seriously don't know what people expect from some movies? When I see that it's a thriller / adventure, and then I get an underground river, caves, darkness, creepy creatures etc well then I'm happy. That's what I was expecting and that's what I got. Don't try to compare it with Alien or whatever other movie. The Cave is the Cave and that's it. If you like a little bit of suspense, with strange creatures then you will like this movie. It might not be a masterpiece but it is for sure entertaining enough. Certainly compared to other movies that get a way higher ranking here on IMDb. I enjoyed it and I will probably watch it again in a couple years.
... View MoreA group of scientist/explorers are brought in to explore a cave in Romania. Legend claims a church was built to seal the cave as a display of God's protective power, and Templar Knights fought winged demons. The acting is pretty good with some solid actors. The most recognizable actors are Lena Headey, Morris Chestnut, Daniel Dae Kim, Cole Hauser, Piper Perabo, and Eddie Cibrian. They're able to give serious performances without being campy. It's not scary as a horror, but it works more as an action adventure. They could have laid out the cave system better as the movie goes along. A few seconds of screen time could save a whole lot of headaches. Seeing Piper Perabo swinging on the cliff is a lot of fun. However some of the other action scenes are too confused and chaotic. The creatures are a bit of a disappointment. It's just yet another CG creature creation. Half lizard half dragon, it could have been so much better considering what the creatures are derived from. They could have made it much more original and unique.
