Reviews
The Movie Diorama

I should've known, all the evidence was there. First January weekend release, low budget horror, negative reviews, all the signs indicating that this was going to be terrible. I just didn't know it was going to be THIS atrocious. It revolves around a group of teenagers who rent a house, everything is great until one of them sees the name "The Bye Bye Man" etched onto some furniture. Unfortunately for that individual, you can't say or even think of the name otherwise he will come for you. A representation of how an idea can manifest the mind, metaphorically conveying the sins of our...oh who am I even kidding, it's just an old man in a cloak. The mythology behind "The Bye Bye Man", in retrospect, is quite stupid. Subconsciously you will always think about the name, so really if you ever see those words...you're pretty much done for. Adios. See you later! Keeping the above in mind, no thrills can effectively be produced because the characters are going to die anyway. You can't stop yourself thinking of something, 'Inception' taught us this! Regardless, this was utter rubbish. Aside from the promising opening sequence and Carrie-Anne Moss doing her best Trinity impression (*cough* lifeless *cough*) there was nothing original here. Just one or two jump scares and some kids rapidly going insane shouting "Don't say it! Don't think it!". The characters had as much development as the antagonist's name (hint: none) and the acting was truly awful, particularly Bonas. It was borderline TV movie standard. The "scares" were just loud noises or plastic stunt dolls unexpectedly getting demolished by an oncoming vehicle, that's it. They even CGI'd his skinless hell hound, badly may I just say. Wait, why does he even have one!? Who is "The Bye Bye Man"? Why is there a guy called Virgil? Did he seriously look up "The Bye Bye Man" on a search engine, in a library? Why am I wasting precious life watching this!? Urgh, I'm done. Uninteresting, unoriginal, unexciting and damn un-fricking-scary. I'm waving goodbye to this trash.

I would ignore the bad reviews, and the low rating, and give it a shot. I guess most people these days don't understand the concept of a good horror movie. I almost passed because of the silly title, but I was entertained throughout.

I've seen a lot of horror films in my lifetime, and this one is neither among the best nor the worst. If you're a fan of the genre then I'm sure you've seen a lot of absolutely unwatchable films - this isn't one of them. Sure, it has some minor issues, but overall it's completely watchable. I won't go telling all my friends to watch it, but I'm not sad I wasted my time on it either. In one word, MEH.
