People who who are not avid Sci-Fi enthusiasts may rate this film higher than I. The holes in this film are beyond massive. The scientists is anything but. The frequency issue was a joke. They sent an apple through the sending pod that apparently went through but did not materialize in the receiving pod. When it did not come back they quickly concluded it went to a parallel universe (what a leap). Then they concluded the apple did not come back because the beings in the parallel universe must be on a different frequency. Question, if they are a different frequency, how did they receive the apple? So they wrote the frequency on a paper and sent it through, which apparently solved the problem as the apple was sent back.Next they sent a video camera through. The parallel universe scientist was on the recording that came back. The scientist decided to send herself through. "Hey. The apple and the camera worked. So why not?" Without hesitation nor reservation, she brings the alternate husband back to this universe because hers recently died. The duplicate turns out to be a homicidal maniac. Of course no one must know this is a duplicate husband. The assistant builds another teleporter in his basement. Wires dangling inside the box. Somehow his house circuit breakers and power lines are designed to provide 300 "Petawatts" of power without blowing a fuse. There is so much more wrong with this film it is too much to write.

I would score The Gateway a six if it had had a bigger budget but since it is a low budget movie it deserves a seven. The story is well thought of and interesting to watch. There were never dull moments at any point. Almost no special effects in this sci-fi movie, and that's due to the small budget, but still good enough to watch because the story of the parallel universes was an interesting concept. The acting though was not the greatest, not terrible neither, but certainly not award winning. This movie just gets it from it's story and not from the acting. I could see the same movie with a higher budget and better actors doing very well. But for an Australian indie movie it was not bad at all.

This was great for a low budget movie , it never had a dull moment , was interesting throughout and the film flew by which is always a good sign ,,i loved the main lady character you could really connect with her and in all a very enjoyable and thought provoking movie , ignore the reviews picking holes in this movie i think they must be living in a parallel universe watching a different movie to knock this entertaining film ,

Good, it's a low budget. Good, is independent. But. Why bad actors? I am so sorry to say that but they act like a 'let's play On Stage in the backyard' game. Probably they aren't bad per se but they aren't nicely directed, that's for sure. There are also several flaws in the story line that not make sense, even considering the concept of world layers. Not 'spoilering', if you going to watch it you will probably notice yourself. Honestly I can appreciate Sci-Fi without big special effects but I need to 'feel it' to enjoy and this wasn't the case.
