Starsky and Hutch (2004): Dir: Todd Phillips / Cast: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Snoop Dogg, Jason Bateman: Yet another 1970's T.V. show resurrected for the big screen. It is not a total failure although it will be most appreciated by those whom remember the TV show or those whom are fans of the stars. It stars Ben Stiller as Starsky, a no nonsense cop who goes by the book. Owen Wilson plays Hutch who breaks the rules. The two are paired as partners investigating a cocaine deal. Not much of a concept but the structure is detailed with many funny moments. Ending is typical but director Todd Phillips seems to have timing on his side with regards to the humour. He previously made Old School and the horrid Road Trip. Great chemistry between Stiller and Wilson whom are either at odds or botching up the case. We know where this is headed but despite the conventions there are colourful supporting roles by Vince Vaughn as the drug lord, and Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear whom offers underground assistance. Jason Bateman plays Vaughn's partner in crime in yet another comic turn. This is better than one may anticipate but hardly a masterpiece. It serves as a resurrected T.V. cop show that is not as celebrated in 2004 as perhaps others programs at its initial run was but it is still quite funny taking the buddy cop premise into exhaust overdrive with superb comedic performances. Score: 6 / 10

Star-sky and hutch is a remake of the 7os cop show that ran from 1075 - 1979 and starred Paul Micheal Glaser and David soul hear it stars Ben stiller and Owen Wilson is the two cops and to be honest its neither a great nor abysmal film just plain average to be honest . It is a prequel to the series showing how star sky and hutch were brought together to solve there first case which is to bring down a drug kingpin played by Vince Vaughan who importing illegal shipments of cocaine for his criminal associates . Overall star-sky and hutch is a pleasant way to spend 95 mins Ben stiller and Owen Wilson are fine as the two cops with stiller being the highlight of the film he exhibits all of g lasers character traits and has all his mannerisms and the look of him you feel that it is someone who could be called Paul Glaser while Owen Wilson just completely through the motions and doing the same Schick he does all time completely ruining a role made by David soul .

Although I was just a kid in the Seventies, I remember Starsky and Hutch. The first fifteen minutes of the movie were outstanding in that the audience really feels that it is the 1970s. There is the romanticism and coolness of the 70s, but there are also real problems going on. Too many nostalgia movies just turn some era into a stereotype and fantasia. In the very beginning, Vince Vaughn plays an extremely psychopathic drug dealer who has no problem killing someone and then going back to getting a massage. The job of being a cop is seen as pretty rough. The 70s was an exciting time, but it was also a time of stressful change. The beginning of the movie is excellent in making one believe that it is actually 1975. There are some hilarious and funny moments in the movie. Stiller plays a really uptight person, tightly wound and a rules freak. I think Starsky was supposed to be college educated. Hutch is less developed, and more like Owen Wilson. Still, Wilson and Stiller are very funny together, as they usually are. The funniest scene was when Stiller accidentally shoots off the tail of an iguana, owned by a local hood played by Snoop Dog. It turns out to not lead to a shootout, because they all determine that iguanas grow their tails back. I also like it when the cops meet at the home of the two drug dealers. Rather than being unsophisticated, Bateman and Vaughn are excellent as portraying themselves as drug dealers masquerading as sophisticated members of San Francisco's gentry. They even talk about the charities they are involved in. I also like how Hutch and Starsky are seen as clowns, treated with disrespect and contempt by their fellow officers. Christopher Penn was excellent as a cop who thinks that Starsky is someone who is an oddball to the unit. This rings "real life", where people often do jobs where there is not much visible reward. The police chief, played by 70s actor Fred Williamson, is very good as someone who is so tired of the duo's antics, but somehow keeps them on because he sees potential in them. There are other things that seem completely overboard and unnecessary. The role by Will Farrell just seems weird and obtuse. The cheerleader openly stripping naked is ridiculous. America is not Norway. Believe me, even in the 70s, America was Puritan. The disco scene seemed a bit ridiculous and overboard. It just seemed to be a sidetrack. So did the scene where they dress up like Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda. That was 1969, not 1975. It was a distraction. In the end it, it was the Grand Prix that changed my vote from a 5 to a 6. Cars were a big deal back then, and the Grand Prix was amazing. I never really got into the original TV show - Starsky and Hutch. I liked that the movie mostly succeeded in showing the 70s as they were, but went too overboard with distractions, as well.

Starsky & Hutch is an action comedy film that stars Ben Stiller as David Starsky and Owen Wilson as Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson. It was a film adaptation of the original television series of the same name from the 1970s.The story picks up as two streetwise undercover cops in 1975, driving in a red 1974 Ford Gran Torino, bust drug criminals. The film functions as a sort of prequel to the TV series, as it portrays when Starsky was first partnered with Hutchinson. It also features appearance by Juliette Lewis, Will Ferrell,Matt Walsh,Snoop Dogg and Vince Vaughn. The movie was directed by Todd Philips. The story starts when Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson and Dave Starsky are a tough pair of plain-clothes cops who drive a red and white Ford Torino and solve cases with the assistance of their informant, Huggy Bear. While investigating their latest case, the duo realize that the culprit is none other than Reese Feldman, the criminal involved in their first bust. Although the script was all over the map,the chemistry between Stiller and Wilson made up for the film. The story also moves slowly and without much grace. It tries to jiggle laughs out of us as much as possible instead of letting them flow freely. But nevertheless, the film is more warmhearted than sentimental and just as irreverent as it is nostalgic.Overall,it is a good for laughs movie.
