Ricky Jervais wrote this for him to act in... This is plain to see. If you take that into account, and the fact that true comedy is serious and unintentional (something that Americans don't seem to understand; I am sorry, but slapstick is NOT comedy), then this film is a masterpiece...The interplay of Characters is extremely well crafted. The Characters have been formed properly and with the perfect intent of the conveyance of the story line. The editing and flow of the film is very good. The overall effect is astounding and I took immense pleasure in watching it...I will recommend this film to everyone. I predict that this film will become a cult classic...

Ricky Gervais and Eric Bana star in "Special Correspondents" a comedy from 2016.Bana plays Frank, a narcissistic radio journalist considered excellent, though he's often in trouble with his boss for getting into murder sites by stating he's the police, etc. His technician is Ian Finch (Gervais), whose wife, Eleanor (Vera Farmiga) has just left him after sleeping with Frank, though he didn't know she was Ian's wife, and Ian doesn't know about it. Ian is totally devastated over her leaving him and is writing letters to his wife the size of novels. When Frank is told to go to Ecuador and cover an uprising, he talks Ian into going with him. Unfortunately, Ian threw out some stuff before leaving, which included the passports and some other important papers. This means they are stuck in New York. They head to the home of Ian's friends, Brigida and Domingo (America Ferrara and Raul Castillo) where Ian is staying. The pair is well- meaning but not the sharpest knives in the drawer.Ian decides to pretend they are in Ecuador with sound effects and people yelling in Spanish as Frank broadcasts. It becomes somewhat complicated when they are told to go to the American Embassy. That's impossible, so they decide on something else.Meanwhile Eleanor is hard at work in the United States. It is very hard for me to like today's comedies because to me, they're dumbed down with stupid characters, plots, and vulgar jokes. I loved this comedy, and I think Gervais did a fantastic job writing the script. I had never seen Eric Bana do comedy and he was excellent. Vera Farmiga had the most fun role and she milked it for all it was worth. America Ferrara and Raul Castillo are deliberately exaggerated characters, and they both handled their roles well. And as the sad sack Ian, Gervais is great and has wonderful chemistry with Bana.Enjoyable and as the rest of the people who liked it said, don't pay attention to the reviews, just watch it and have a good time.

What annoyed me the most in Ricky Gervais' new film is the total lack of subtlety. It really feels like one of these run-of-the mill US-comedies where every joke has to be understandable to any kind of audience, albeit losing its edge, specially when half of the time, it goes along with the most cringe-worthy feature of intellectually undemanding comedies known to mankind: plucked violin strings. The misadventure of a radio journalist and his technician who miss a flight and are compelled to fake the news reports from a war zone could have been so much more in any possible way, specially given the talent of Ricky Gervais when it comes to awkward situations and weird characters. Instead, we are presented the bare minimum of what family-friendly entertainment can be. A certainly watchable, albeit totally forgettable show with cliché characters and situations that seems to be targeted at the more easily amused part of the audience and that omits any quality that has built up the reputation of Mr Gervais in the last 15 or so years.

We loved Special Correspondents soo much! Clapped at the end! How often do you do THAT?? lol! Watch it, you'll love it! : > Ricky Gervais is a genius - we loved all the layers... Great Cast Wow, 10 lines before it'll take the comment? Haha! That seems excessive...But watch the film, you'll laugh, is so nice and smart and funny! : >Wow, this is crazy - why on earth would anyone choose to force any person writing a nice, quick review, force them to write an essay, but of course you don't want to give anything away about the movie - there, let me see if it'll accept my review, now, and hopefully they'll change this moronic Review Rule - Rules are made to be broken, so, this would be a great stooopid rule to break - AND, I see you're not allowed to play with the language, play around with your spelling, as I am wont to do... So, anyway, watch Special Correspondents, is fantastic!
