I'm not a big fan of long winded reviews as I generally want to know a movie's basic plot and if it's worth a 5h1t to watch, so here goes.I'm a big werewolf movie fan. I saw this thing advertised on line so I gave it a whirl. From the moment it kicks off it feels cheap to the eye. The dialogue is as wooden as Pinocchio's middle leg. The acting is almost a literary game of chess in which a chiefly little known cast fight to convince the viewer against a ceaseless tide of diabolical scripture and a plot that seems to have been written by a 7 year old for his 'write a scary story' homework assignment. It is typically American action in the sense that throughout the movie the are thousands of rounds of ammunition fired off left, right and center with targets only suffering hits as and when the director thought it was about time to move on to another scene and needed an excuse to do so. If you want a werewolf film that the kids can watch without wetting the bed then this is it. The action is as convincing as the Power Rangers (as is the acting), and given that there are people attacked by werekittens (because they do look like cats rather than wolves) there isn't so much as a nose-bleed in sight. I've given it three stars though... Why's that? Because the actors turned up (one star) there is a smattering of nickelodeon grade action in it (two stars) and, although paper thin, there is a trace of a discernible plot somewhere.Wrap up: Like a good scary werewolf movie? Go watch WER or Bad Moon. This is watered down junk.
... View MoreThis is one of those typical modern horror flicks, with action thrown into it. It focuses around two different groups of werewolves battling each other. The one group wants to be cured of the curse, while the others try to prevent the others from finding the cure to it. As a werewolf flick this movie really isn't much special but it at least is still good looking and has plenty of action in it to keep things going. It still can't help to conceal though that the story is being quite formulaic and predictable. In it's core this movie is nothing more but a B-movie, made with a fairly low budget and just not really the greatest cast or crew involved. For some reason this movie still got a theatrical release at some places, while this is obviously a movie which should had gone straight to the DVD market instead. The movie is still good looking though with its effects and also the look and make-up of the movie its werewolves is quite good. The movie had the Stan Winston Studio involved, which definitely adds to the movie and prevents it from ever becoming a laughable one with any of its effects.Too bad that everything else is being so very standard. This movie basically feature nothing in it that you haven't seen before in some different movie. This movie just seems like one to cash in on a popular genre. It also isn't a very well cast movie. What the movie is mostly lacking is a good evil menacing villain. The casting of the 'bad guys' was the worst thing of the movie, while also the leading actors of this movie weren't being too impressive. It only features some semi-well known actors in it, such as for instance Elias Koteas, Kim Coates and Tom Jackson, who still add a bit of body to the movie. I've never been too impressed with Rhona Mitra as a leading lady and she is always much better in smaller supporting roles. One of those movie you can very easily do without, even when you are really into the genre.4/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
... View MoreWhere it all goes wrong. I watched this movie -cut for PG reasons- and it was entertaining. Butit doesn't do all that well. I can understand why people bash this movie and why people like this movie. For that I rate it average.Pros: decent action movie with a fast paced story, solid script, brawls, shoot outs and explosions. Cons: it's an action movie, with occasional -occasional- werewolf action (Except the grand finale). This is not your typical werewolf horror movie, in fact it focuses on being an action movie. The other thing is that all the werewolf's look like descendants of the wolf man. Yes, bipedal, furry, and most of all... very human-like. They could have been Bigfoots cousins. It does keep the women sexy, as far as sexy can go with furry human like-creatures... But somehow it's not scary enough. You don't even get to see one descent changing scene.Maybe we have been spoiled rotten by "an American werewolf in London"(AWIL) and by "the Howling"(TH) and even by the CG aided "Underworld" or Indies as "Ginger Snaps" and "Dog Soldiers", on both the changing scene and on werewolf design. But bipedal hairy humans that resemble as much as Quest for Fire Caveman as Bigfoot that don't even have wet noses... The upside is, the actors -even though hairy- are still recognizable, so the wolf man look could have been used on purpose.I may be nagging about this ...but c'mon: "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS PRESENT" and Creature effects by "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS"What I am trying to say is, that the werewolf theme raises the bar a bit high, since you'd expect horror and wereWOLF and in your face man-wolf changes, because what has all been done earlier in AWiL and in TH and similar movies, not even mentioning the involvement of "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS" And the movie fails to deliver all this. So ... for a werewolf movie ... very disappointing.Bottom line: For an action movie with supernatural twist, it's actually a pretty good movie! For a werewolf movie ... poo happens
... View MoreThis movie is boring. I thought it was going to be like Underworld with two fighting clans both trying to create a super monster. I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching this. The werewolf costumes don't look anything like a wolf. They just have sharp teeth and are hairier. And they don't talk, they just roar. I could tell my dad to stop shaving for a month, buy some fangs from the Halloween shop, and grunt like a gorilla, and he would look like the werewolves in this movie. I saw scarier things while watching Scooby Doo.The plot is nothing new, either. 2 packs of wolves. One wants to end the curse, one doesn't. They fight, and the good guys win. Waaaaaaaay too predictable. There is no twist in the story. No big secrets. No surprises that change everything. You could guess the whole movie after watching the beginning. The ending isn't anything spectacular. It doesn't go out with a big bang. Nothing happens to the boy. He doesn't turn into Superman and save everybody. He doesn't get any super-powers that everybody says he should have. He just... stays the same. You could feel that at the very end, the director probably said "Lets finish this. I need to go home." This movie is boring. The plot is boring. And the fight scenes are terrible. If you want a good movie that has monster against monster, go watch Underworld. It has a better plot.
