Satan's Triangle (1975) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Nice made-for-TV horror film has a Coast Guard rescuer (Doug McClure) landing on a boat and discovering everyone on board is dead with the exception of one woman (Kim Novak). The two must stay on the ship until the next day and that's when the woman tries to explain what happened to everyone else. SATAN'S TRIANGLE is a pretty good take on the Bermuda Triangle myth and for the most part it's entertaining. The biggest problem is the title, which pretty much gives away the explanation of what's going on, which is a real shame because the twist at the end is pretty good and even so with viewers knowing what to expect. The film opens up talking about the various things to disappear from this area and then it talks about how this is one explanation. Who knows how true it is but for the most part I thought the screenwriters made it work and the explanation is an interesting one. It also doesn't hurt that we get two fine leads offering up good performances. Novak plays it rather sexy here and for the most part I thought she was good in the role. McClure was also good in the lead as was supporting players Ed Lauter and Alejandro Rey who plays a priest. Director Sutton Roley does a nice job with the pacing of the film and I also thought the scenes showing the dead bodies was quite effective. Again, the film manages to be very entertaining from start to finish but one wishes the secret would have been hidden more but I guess the title is what would bring some people to the movie.
... View MoreI saw this as a young adult while in the Army in Hawaii. I was sick in bed one day and stumbled across this flick just as it started. I have always remembered this film because of the ending. When Doug smiled while bobbing in the water, I just about froze with chills. The Marlin floating below deck was trey creepy too. It was the only time I have ever seen this film. This was in 1976 so its been 30 years and I can still see that expression on his face. I've probably seen hundreds of horror films since and forgotten most of them, but Satans Triangle stands out as one of the best low budget creep fest's to date. well done. I miss Doug McClure.
... View MoreThe latter-day, 40-something beauty of Kim Novak--striking and yet sinister--is milked for all its worth in this effective TV-made occult suspenser about a Coast Guard pilot investigating a doomed private yacht adrift on the waters, finding a sole survivor who seems to know the ship's many mysteries. The film builds suspense through tension and an atmosphere full of unseen dread. Although I was initially chilled by the well-handled twist ending, I was somewhat disappointed to see the film throw out all its mystery to instead become a battle between good and evil. I don't mean to suggest that's a bad thing, it's just that "Satan's Triangle" was doing such a fabulous job of being scary without being too specific that it's a bit of a letdown to see the story slip into formula. Nevertheless, a creepy, cunning item to jangle the nerves.
... View MoreI saw this move for the first time in 1975 and lost several nights of sleep. I saw it again in 1976 at age 16 with the same affect. I have tried everywhere to locate it to no avail. The local TV stations could not help (although I don't think they tried to hard.)The previous commentaries sum the movie up pretty well, I don't think my two cents will add much more.I must comment on the ending scene however...pure genius, creepy and terrifying, I still remember that scene as though I had just turned off the TV. I hope we can convince someone to make it available to us.This web sight is very helpfull at least now we have more information on the actors etc. Paul Plymouth Mass U.S.A.
