"Ami-chan's First Love" (I will spare you the Japanese title here as reading out that one may take about as long as watching this film) is a Japanese anime short film from 1995, so over 20 years old, and this one runs for 16 minutes only and it is of course from the Sailor Moon universe, a pretty successful Japanese animated series and the focus here is on the character of Amy, the nerd with all the good grades at school, and what happens when a rival enters her life who may or may not be an actual demon following her. The antagonist, to be honest, is pretty ridiculous, and her first love references make little sense, but there are perspectives from which this film is interesting to take a look at and this refers to the comedic moments for sure that have their own hilarious approach and style as well as the ways in which love differs compared to us here in germany or Western Europe or the United States you could say too. Seeing a guy's name with good grades is enough to fall in love with hikm apparently and I am not sure to which extent they may have overexaggerated here, but I guess it plays a bigger role in Japan in terms of attraction than it does here. other than that, it is basically a slightly shorter Sailor Moon episodes. Fans of the character symbolizing Mercury will have an expecially fun time here, but everybody else who does not mind Sailor Moon can watch it too. it was pretty solid, yet never great. i give it a thumbs-up.

Well I don't know much about anything, but I sure liked this film. In short, it was creative, humorous, simple, and heartwarming. In other words, it was everything it set out to be.The story is set around a girl's first love, (as the title suggests) and I certainly should warn you: expect nothing challenging or provocative in terms of the subject matter here. I mean, it is a children's cartoon. It's really just a simple story, but it's told well, and it holds your attention well.In the end: it's short, it's funny, it's cute, it's simple, it's good.

An interesting and comic examination of Ami-chan's character. I felt that this film hit a real high about halfway through. Unfortunately, rather than spend time exploring Ami's reaction to the love letter, the end of the movie introduced a rather unnecessary monster which wasted a lot of time and was rather inappropriate in my opinion.Still worth while watching.
