A beautiful movie for all the Indian Regional Music & Rock Lovers. This is my first review on IMDb and I'm proud to have watched this movie, bunking college with a bunch of friends to buy tickets in Black and watch this amazing movie. If you haven't watched it, watch it. I can guarantee Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal are their best. Directed by Abhisekh Kapoor who later went on to direct this beautiful film Kai Po Che based on Chetan Bhagat's best-seller 3 Mistakes on my Life. Watch it for the beautiful music, ALL HAIL! Amit Trivedi. The Part 2 on this film is in rumors, but I hope some day Abhisekh Kapoor makes the sequel of this movie with the same actors 10 years later in 2018. It will be better than the Richard Linklater's movies Before Sunrise, Before Sunset & Before Midnight. I pray!

There is only one word to basically describe the whole movie: Overrated.I went to the theater quite reluctantly (as I do for most movies), but still with high expectations. But the outcome was quite different from what I expected.I went expecting to see a movie with more depth, more humor...I went to see a movie about four rock stars with separate personalities; someone funny, someone slightly insecure, someone serious, etc. But no. What did I get? Four guys trying desperately to look like American/British rock stars, but failing miserably. The songs were mediocre, the acting was okay, and the screenplay was pretty much half-decent. And the lasting impression? ...There was none. But see what I mean? A song that I really like reaches out with invisible arms and touches my heart; it gives me a warm, glowing feeling inside, and it makes me feel as though I'm surrounded with a golden aura. But these songs barely make me feel anything. They didn't have too much of an effect on me. And mainly, they didn't touch me. It's like there's an invisible wall around me that stops these songs from reaching me.The acting wasn't exactly amazing either. Luke was the only really good one. Purab was decent, Arjun was okay, and Farhan was bad. I'll start with Luke. He was the only one who probably added some depth to his role; he was the only one who managed to act the part he was supposed to act. Purab was quite lively, and that was a good thing for him. Arjun didn't put too much effort, but was good enough for a passing. Farhan? I didn't like him. It was like he just suddenly decided that aside from directing, he could act and sing out of the blue. His singing was nothing compared to big time rock bands, like Linkin Park, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, etc.The script was too boring and too serious. If there had been even a little bit more humor than this, then I would have actually liked the movie to a higher degree. The only good and touching part was *SPOILER* when Rob was admitted to the hospital and he breaks the news that he's going to die. *END SPOILER* But what was my main problem, you ask? My main problem, I answer, is HOW THEY TRY SO HARD TO BE LIKE Americans. No, guys, no. It's not working, so give it up. Your attempts are pretty sorry and pathetic.Period.

First, let me start with the negatives of the movie. None. Of course you can start nitpicking for trivial unnecessary detail but the movie is such a treat to watch, you would not want to do that. Kudos to Abhishek Kapoor, this is one of the most brilliantly executed Hindi movies I have seen. I started watching the movie with the expression "Farhan Akhtar and a rock movie ~!"(being an Engineer ~ means negative!) and got really convinced after watching the rather bizarre "Asaman hain neela kyoun..." song. Then the movie takes gear and boy is it a smooth drive. The director uses to the maximum effect interleaving style of narration to maintain a sense of suspense in an emotional drama genre film. Each character is perfectly defined and the story telling is tight. Farhan the actor rocks. He carries the body language of a rock performer with élan and is as cold as ice when required. Every other actor performed exactly what they are supposed to, nothing more nothing less. And even Arjun Rampal is absorbing. When the director knows what he wants, he can extract exactly that from his crew and this is the best example. For a movie based on rock, the music must rock and did Shankar-Ehsan-Loy exceed expectations. With the help of excellent but simple lyrics from Javed Akhtar the music meets the standard of the movie. The lyrics, especially for the rock songs, are different using everyday language and bring freshness to the songs. The song 'Pichle Saat Dinon Mein' is extremely catchy and meaningful. Here again Farhan the rock star rocks rendering his vocals for four songs. I seriously wish Farhan doesn't get carried away by his multi talents and concentrates on directing. That is where we need him the most although I would love to enjoy his acting and singing talents occasionally.I don't want to get into the details of the story as it is best enjoyed when you see it happen. Rock on!! tracks the life of rock band Magik comprising of lead singer Aditya, guitarist Joe, drummer KD and keyboardist Rob. It's a wonderful journey of the intrigue in their lives, the practical realities and their passion. Just enjoy it as Abhishek takes you along. Finally Rock on!! definitely needs more exclamations. Go watch it and I assure you, you will enjoy it immensely. Thanks Abhishek and Farhan, keep rocking on with such quality movies. Indian audience deserves it.

Showcasing Farhaan Akhtar's brilliant debut as actor-n-singer and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's chart-burning music, writer-director Abhishek Kapoor's new film Rock On!! indeed turns auditorium into rock concert. It tells story of four friends, their lives, rock band, passion for music. In that sense, Rock On!! is maverick in its theme as rock music and feels like a companion to Dil Chahata Hai.Opens with a bang on streets with "Socha hai" track. Then switches to present day where we meet four members of the band living adult life of compromise and disappointments though some are successful. Lead vocalist now investment banker Aditya Shroff's (Farhaan Akhatar) life is on auto-pilot with a beautiful loving wife Saakshi (adorable Prachi Desai). Lead guitarist Joe (Arjun Rampal) still struggling to find sure foot in music industry married to college sweetheart Debbie (Shahana Goswami) who had aspiration of stylist. KD (Purab Kohli) joined his father's jewelry business goes alone to discs while keyboard artist Rob is working with Anu Malik studio having other issues. Their loneliness, mechanical lives, austerity is captured and conveyed with precision. Movie cuts back and forth with brilliantly done flashbacks serves perfect foil to their present day lives. One day Saakshi discovers husband's buried past in archives and a reunion is in sight to recreate the magic one more time.Reason why Rock on!! works so well as it embraces music and its characters equally neither upstages other. And it does that with no shred of pretentiousness or sensationalism giving movie its sincere and earnest tone. Characters instantly click and become real people. Surprisingly debutant Farhaan delivers film's key performance. In his husky baritone he finely portrays Aditya as multi-faceted character. Watch callous Aditya replying his friends about smoking. Or in that outrageous scene with wife Sakhshi which catches fire but slowly, started with a glass of scotch and a bit of contemplation.Praising Farhaan let's not belittle other actors. Arjun Rampal's heartfelt performance as failed artist, and Debbie plays her bittersweet character with depth. Watch Purab Kohli stuttering with eyes fixated on Koyal Puri with dork smile – followed by a karaoke scene where he croons Gloria Gaynor's "I will survive" gives movie its biggest laugh. Thought second half follows somewhat traditional path with some weak sequences, it's music and performances you care so much for.Film wouldn't have been this good without its exuberant soulful music. I was steeped into each stage performance choreographed in the film, as each and every artist in the band physically evoke the musician's styles so authentic it feels like inside a live concert. Evident in ballad "pichale saat dino me" or melodic "Tum ho to" to exhilarating "Sindbaad – the sailor". Watch earliest in a jam packed hall with your own band. It's a finely composed rock album.
