The scariest part, and had nothing to do with the movie, was the DVD cover. Tactic seen before on extreme cheap productions. Storyline: Teen daughter and divorced mom argue over independence (what's new). Teen girl w/off the shelf book on the occult gets a chant (and she's apparently the only one who has done this?) to call up baddie spirit. The usual few drops of blood, say a few meaningless words, and done in the woods of course. Scaries: A couple scenes of a few seconds of shadow in darkened room. A few seconds of spider like crawling figure in distance. Friend has an unseen scary moment so we see her acting scared by sitting in car. Closing scenes has someone acting possessed in a really put-you-to-sleep boring way. Oh, and music and the required expectation of course.

I can't believe that this has such a low score. It's a low budget chiller that really delivers. A teenager casts a curse/spell on her mom. Then immediately regrets it.Simple plot line pulled off brilliantly. Excellent performances and tension that mounts until a satisfying ending. It may not be the fastest paced film ever but enough happens to keep you interested. It has a few great set pieces and the end gave me a genuine chill.I would have given this a solid 7 but gave it 10 to offset those who pulled down the score because they have no attention span.

A good example of a well made psychological thriller. This movie proves that you don't need blood and gore, or cheesy special effects to make a good thriller. Yes it is slow at times but that just makes it more down to earth. Unlike many other horror or thriller movies that go way over the top this one stays grounded.

Yes, this is a teen angst story. Yes, the teens are of the troubled Goth variety so unappealingly stereotyped in so many films. But don't despair! Director and writer Adam MacDonald portrays them in a very sympathetic manner (the obligatory expletives are a little forced, however) and they emerge not only as strong characters, but their group is a vital one considering the inconsistency that exists at home.Leah (Nicole Muñoz) is missing her dead father, and her mother's up-and-down alcohol-induced mood-swings are making her unhappy. A keen reader of occult books, she rashly performs a Black Magic ritual to be rid of her mother - and then regrets it. By then, of course, it's too late. This is a pleasingly altered take on the familiar 'summoning a demon' story, and the modest budget is used to good effect, with bumps and jolting camera angles providing more naturalistic chills than CGI (which is used, but very sparingly) or wildly choreographed jump-scares. The new house Leah and her mother (Laurie Holden) move into is tailor-made for a haunting and is surrounded by acres of terrific Blair Witchy woodland. The acting is very good from all concerned, especially the two major females, and it becomes a blur as to just who is possessed and who is the victim. It's a low-key slow-burner with a familiar narrative, but with enough enjoyable details to satisfy.
