Mohanlal did great as Puli Murugan. Cinematography of highest class, capturing the great Puligramam and where Puli is fighting. Fighting is one of the great seen in Mohanlal moves, and I can even say great in Malayalam movies.Story is crystal clear without any lag. I was sitting all through the film without taking of my eyes.
... View MoreI'm baffled that Pulimurugan made more than 100 crores and went on to become the biggest hit in the history of Malayalam cinema. It is a steaming pile of excreta. Everything about the movie was substandard. The comedy scenes were sleazy. The writing and direction were non-existent. It seemed like everything was conceived on the sets. Compare this awful film to something like Angamaly Diaries where the makers really worked hard and the actors rehearsed their parts so well that everything looked so real. This is a film that belongs in the horrible 90s and early 2000s when Malayalam cinema was at its worst. The fight scenes with the tiger were at least decent I guess. But when you have Jungle Book and Kong:Skull Island to compete with Pulimurugan, it shows the lack of awareness of average Malayali film-goers who flocked to the theaters like sheep.Kamalini Mukherjee's role, acting and expressions were ridiculous. To say that she phoned it in would be an understatement. She was so miscast in the role of the nagging wife. And what was Namitha doing in this film? I wonder who came up with the plot. And which producer had the balls to actually finance this piece of crap. He must be laughing all the way to the bank now. But the film is inexcusably bad. Mohanlal is effortlessly average in a ridiculous role. Though the scene where he growls at the tiger was unintentionally funny. Mohanlal has had a tremendous career. He should now send feelers to young filmmakers like Lijo Jose Pellishery and Ashiq Abu, instead of working with the likes of Vyshakh. I know this will never happen. Thank god I did not watch this in the theater. It was pretty unbearable on DVD itself. I got drunk and went to sleep after around 90 minutes of this.To people who are curious about this film - please do not watch it. This review is a warning. This film is a sleazy and mediocre B-movie marketed as a slick world class production.
... View MoreGivinng due credit to the positive aspects - The movie as such solely relies on Mohanlal's performance, which is awesome. But team work isn't balanced, though. Siddique's acting, camera work & Peter Hein's stunts were good too. Music is a let down, much suited for a low-bud film, doesn't suit Gopi Sundar's orchestration skills. Sudhir Karamana has been overacting in a few recent movies, which is in stark contrast with that of his father's fantastic controlled acting. Karamana Janardhanan Nair was one of Malayalam's finest. CGI is way better than that in any other south Indian movies released so far, although there are a few flaws which only trained eyes might spot. I wouldn't have noticed any of those, if I hadn't been working in Quality control in Animation Looks like the idea was to air the movie nationally but Jagapathy Babu, the ace Telugu villain's character & script couldn't deliver. Comparisons with Devasuram & Kireedam are hardly justified as both Napoleon & Mohan Raj carried off their equally important roles with flair & left a lasting strong impact. The pack of villains apparently have hurriedly-scripted roles. This is at a time when performance by a total newcomer Ashwin Kumar in Jacobinte swargarajyam was amazingly powerful & realistic. Otherwise the fact that excellent footages of Mohanlal fighting a snake and other scenes shown in teasers - yet removed scenes for optimizing the length of the movie is disappointing. Perhaps shortening stale comedy footage of Namita would have been prudent. Kamalini Mukherjee's expressions are hardly worth commenting- as is apt for any other imported actress, usual in Malayalam. Her casting again, must have had something to do with the intended national market of the movie. Also the stunt sequence while Mohanlal carries his fully grown-up brother while fighting is as ridiculous as watching some archaic Hindi movie. The Hype about this movie is hardly worth believing - Overall Grossly Disappointing
... View Morethis was the best Malayalam movie i have seen...the stunts were really great and realistic..this movie also has great moral;l..Director Vyshakh done a fantastic job. In Pulimurugan, the director just ripped off an image of Superstar Mohanlal and recreated it in a different man. The story is wafer thin, but the dialogues are Fantastic. Supporting characters like Kamalini Mukherjee, Vinu Mohan, Suraj and other all characters done good job except Namitha. I think the movie not need Namitha's character. I forgot to tell Lal's character and the boy (done's Mohanlals childhood character) They were simply awesome. i and my family really loved it
