Decent idea. Worst camera/cinematography, crappy acting/dialogue/characters, poor TV quality This must be the worst camera/cinematography. Shaky crappy camera zooms. The worst. The story is OK but very slow. Poor TV quality, with crappy acting and dialogue. Even with a low budge, they just needed to spend more time on the screenplay.Rating a D, or a 2 just for the idea.Decent idea. I remember catching this on late night TV back in the 80's and it stuck with me for years until I finally saw a DVD copy. It gets badmouthed, but this is what 'good' low budget sci-fi movie looks like. The story was intriguing (for 1979) and it was able to be fairly well made for next to nothing. Has it aged well? No, but the concept was good enough to be ripped off for a big budget remake 20+ years later. They probably though nobody would remember this old b-movie, but seems they were wrong. I wonder how much it ended up costing them. So it's a little goofy looking now, it still deserves some praise. I'd still rather watch this than 'Clone Wars' any day.

The only reason I'm even giving this movie a 4 is because it was made in to an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The horrible direction is only slightly overshadowed by the characters complete inability to act. The lead is an actor i have never seen in anything else and it shows. No chemistry with the love interest and so bland you almost don't care what happens to him. Dick Sargent was not convincing as a villain least of all this guy was suppose to be super evil...he was more annoying then anything. Peter Graves was the only person the movie that wasn't awful, his part was small and even he couldn't compensate for his co-stars lack of talent. In 2004 someone tried to make this mess all over again it was called The Island...I personally didn't see that movie but from what i understand its the same movie. If you want to laugh at this movie get the MST3k episode its really funny...full of bewitched and biography references it makes this movie finally watchable

It's a solid science fiction story that borrows heavily from pieces like Logan's Run, Brave New World, Soylent Green, and THX1138. Although the production value is rather low, the work is an honest creative effort. The movie is enjoyable, but you have to heavily rescale expectations. It is easy to put on the MST3K goggles because cultural (late 70s made-for-TV style) and special effects limitations make it feel worse than it really is. The acting isn't great, but still tops the Star Wars Prequels in that respect. Overall, as a science fiction fan, and given the poor rating on the IMDb, I found myself pleasantly surprised.
