Not a bad movie. I can see why some people got a bit frustrated by it, but having read some of the reasons for this, I think they've jumped the gun (or shark?). You have to use a bit of common sense and realise that they really did have quite few options, and these were exhausted - despite other reviewers claims! This film does build decent suspense. The whole out-at-sea/at the mercy of Mother Nature device works in its favour. The characters are somewhat relatable so we want them to survive and any struggle or near-miss that comes their way kicks us in the teeth too.My main criticism is with regard to the ending. To me it was a bit of a cop out, and I feel the audience deserved a bit more clarity. It was just too vague and the Internet is awash with strong criticism to this effect. The ending aside, it wasn't a bad way to spend an hour and a half or so on a lazy, cold Autumn Sunday evening.

The ending was quite confusing, but the rest of the movie was suspenseful and kept one on edge. In answer to a previous review, there was an anchor (it showed it several times) but it was not lowered. As far as drifting, the yacht did have grab handles on the front that the characters were holding on to. I'm not sure how it really works on a yacht, but it seems like there should be some way to lower the ladder from outside the boat within reach of the characters.

Don't be fooled by the title: Open Water this is not. Open Water was superb, this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Every plot and sub-plot has holes big enough to drive trucks through. The dialogue is atrocious, the acting wooden. The cast and crew of Open Water should be offended: how did this pile of crap get to use the same name and pretend it is a sequel? There is no overlap between the two movies, other than scenes of people being adrift on the ocean. No commonality in characters, director, writers, actors.Avoid at all costs.

I watched this film for the first time a while ago and for some reason I watched it again tonight. I have to say, that it is much better, than I remembered. The pivotal moments stayed with me, but seeing it again, left a stronger impression. The accident is so unbelievably dumb, that makes you think how easily we can get in dead serious trouble. All it takes is one irresponsible, dumb friend. In such a surreal situation disbelief and panic kicks in and I imagine, that staying cool and rational is a privilege of a very few human beings. Of course after seeing how the whole story plays out, it's very easy to be smart and to know better... The group dynamic in my opinion was well written. One nervous irrationally behaving individual can derail all the efforts of a team. And they had more of that kind, so failing at their attempts felt natural for me. This film makes you think about how easily faith can cross one's path and throw them the test of their life. In the end I felt a little drained seeing this all too human tragedy. Just as sad as the predecessor. Not an easy watch, but I would recommend it to people, who can place themselves in the situation and humble enough to know that they are not smarter than anyone else.
