'Ogre' is about so much more than a few kids getting trapped in a town as possible sacrifices to appease a beast. Where most would spend the bulk of the film in slow build up to such a moment, SYFY brilliantly gets into the action very soon, leaving the audience wondering "O.K. how do we keep this interesting for another hour?". Then, they answer: captivating characters(yes, there is actually good acting in this one!), levels and history to build a very well-rounded story, and mystery and twists to keep us not only interested, but on the edge of our seats waiting for what will be thrown at us next! The visual effects are not to be raved about, but this was definitely original and well done. An instant favorite!
... View MoreI didn't really know what to expect from this film before watching it. I could never have predicted what was in store for me. This movie was wonderful and extremely entertaining. The plot is pretty much perfect, although somewhat complicated. The majority of the cast did a great performance especially John Schneider and Chelan Simons. Very well thought out dialog and delivered spectacularly. The only reason that I'm not giving this movie a 10/10 is because the CGI is not good, but the setting made the CGI just a little bit better. The great plot and acting made basically covered up that flaw, though. The ending to this movie had to be the best thing about it. It's so beautiful and might be a tear-jerker for some soft-hearted viewers. This is one upperclass B-movie to remember.
... View MoreBo Duke is the leader of a small town that existed outside of time since the '50's (1850's to be exact). For the inhabitants of said town to continue to exist ageless and disease-free, the townspeople have to sacrifice one of their own to a horribly-CGI'd ogre. Cue a group of curious college students who are searching for the mythical town 150 years later and find more then they bargained for. There was a time when John Schnieder was beloved by millions as one half of the Duke Brothers on the mega-hit show "the Dukes of Hazzard" & then the cult hit "Smallville", seeing that this film starred him piqued my interest. But the moment I saw the incredibly lame 'ogre', I realized that I'd be in for a fiasco. An emotionless, acted-by-the-numbers fiasco. No one really stands out besides Schneider (and even then only because of his past glory) thus making this film highly forgettable fluff. Catherine Isabelle of Ginger Snaps fame also has her talents wasted as the put-upon daughter of the town's leader. My Grade: D DVD Extras: Just trailers for this film, "Sharks in Venice", "Ba'al: the storm god", "Way of War", & "Contract Killers"
... View MoreI was surprised they showed us the Ogre in the first 15 minutes, pleasantly. That was ballsy considering shrek looks about as real as this CGI discount special. That all said, I decided to suspend belief and judgment and just enjoy the movie. There is a bit of titillating gore to keep us gore people happy and some of the acting is decent. The ogre is in thew movie often and its not dark out...a refreshing change. None of this movie is bad but then again none of it is all that good. Besides the below par CGI (which was forgivable) I have to say the editing was the worst I have seen in some time. The characters were likable and the story fun.Worth while for B movie fans and those who like your Shrek "R" rated.
