Hudson Milbank is a successful Hollywood screenwriter who suddenly and strangely finds himself without any emotional feelings. He tries doctor after doctor and shrink after shrink, but nothing works. The Golf Channel, lesbian exercise classes and a dizzying variety of pills get him through the day, but don't quite solve his problem. His writing partner tries everything to get him back to normal, but it's not until Hudson meets Sara that he finds a real motivation to get better and to actually start feeling again. From the writer of Deuce Bigalow, comes NUMB, a romantic comedy following an unusual man looking for strange love.

If this American production fails again as usual to be imaginative in the main character's occupation (a writer...), the movie is however an excellent surprise to depict a psychological pain and the fraud of the shrinks. I know clearly of what i can write because i took this road in my past (remember my title?) and suffer the same depersonalization syndrome (in my case, the start wasn't a pot but a total burnout from college exams to stay the top of my class for a 4th year). Thus, everything I faced during this time is on the screen with great intelligence: the feeling to not recognize his own body, to disconnect from the places, the other people (the same consultations with distant psys, their drugs, their side effects and especially on male potency.the same fear of mixing words and death (mine was about thinking to stop my heart) and the same reply of no connexion. the same anxiety or hyperventilation crisis and the candid help from parents. the same indifference from psys and the same lovestruck for one (mine was a dark Italian with green eyes). And finally, the same solution to escape this doom and live again: get rid of psys, drugs and do sport and meet friends! This personal, intimate journey is here supported by a great cast: Perry is the finest member of the "friends" family with a real talent for comedy and proximity, Lynn is a fresh newcomer, Perry's friend is always funny and it was good to see again Doc's girlfriend and Cancerman! Unfortunately, this movie has great chances to fall in the movies limbos. At least, i'm happy to have found it and i urge you to do the same, even if you are not a psycho!

I know I sometimes are a little giving with the rating, sometimes I give a little more then what some movies might deserve, yet I felt that, that wasn't the case with this movie, Numb is a special movie, from looking at the DVD, or by some of the posters you don't really get what it really is, Numb is special, special! Storyline 10/10: The story is about a man named Hudson, who has depersonalization disorder, look that up if you want to know something about it, the story is mostly about his disorder and how he live with it, and how some of it changes when he meets a woman (Sara) who in some way changes him somewhat through the story, I don't really want to tell you much of the story, believe it the story is just that good, see it for yourself, don't read stuff when wanting to see this movie!, it is that good! Actors: 10/10: I liked just about everyone in this movie, I have always been a fan of Matthew Perry, plus Lynn Collins played really nice as well, I must however say I am not really a fan of Kevin Pollak, he isn't that bad but I am not that big a fan, also what the heck happened to this eyebrows, never seen that on him before, freaked me a little out, except for that the actors were nice enough, I liked them all and they played as real as real can get in a movie, I would see the movie just for the actors actually! Soundtrack: 10/10: It is mostly standard fare, Yeah I said that standard fare, yet some nice tunes are thrown in and they really capture the whole, and the standard tracks that are thrown in fits with the movie just perfectly, especially when they had to convey some feeling to you, which it did all through the movie, I bought the soundtrack, yeah I liked it that much, so I would recommend listening to some of the tracks in the movie they are great! Special Effects N/A: I know there are some of course yet the movie doesn't really emphasize on it so I have not much to say about effects since mostly there weren't any special effects, more camera angels and such not really anything else, but remember this is not an action, adventure or SCI-FI this is a drama! Overall 10/10: As I said before I am usually not this giving with my score not really, but this movie deserve the score I gave it, this movie really is something huge, I felt with the character through the whole movie and that my friend is really something special, that my friend doesn't happen that often, so I would say buy it and keep it, and watch it once a year or something, just for good fun!

The movie is absolutely superb, it has everything, its fun to watch Mathew Perry again and he has done a tremendous job, Goldberg, what can I say about him, he's fantastic as an writer & director & I think its his own story. The movie is about a guy named Hudson who has depersonalized disorder & how he comes face to face to face his fear lolz, its funny & at the same time has a strong message in it.Mathew Perry has done a superb job, I think he deserves an award for this movie, its been a treat to watch him on big screen after his successful series of friends.Go & watch this movie, its worth it.

i just saw this film at the Austin film festival. I had no idea what to expect and i was delighted with the results. Mathew Perry delivers a fantastic understated performance. I really wasn't a fan of his and when I heard he was in it, truthfully i wanted to see it less. But i've changes my tune completely, l'm a definite fan now, he sunk his teeth into this role and really let go of his usual bag of comedic tricks. The writer/director knows what he is doing. He injected just enough, just just enough comedy into the movie to make the disturbing and hard to handle subject matter palatable. I really found the movie a delight and the the whole theatre was laughing in agreement with me. Go see it, its really something!
