When miner Charley 'Boomer' Baxter sets off a series of massive mining detonations in West Virginia, a gigantic earthquake is soon rocking the North Atlantic, exposing a deep seismic fault that runs the length of the North American continent. Joining forces with government seismology expert Dr Amy Lane, Boomer must now race against time to stop the chasm that is threatening to tear America - and the entire world - in half.

I watched the "Special Director's cut" a film cut by the special director. It is nice to know that the world is going to end because of a guy named "Boomer" (Eriq La Salle) who likes to blow things up. A megafault is created and only world renown seismologist Brittany Murphy can save the world...or reunite with her family instead. The movie uses CG graphics for the special effects. This film is no different than other Asylum/ SyFy disaster films which all have the same basic plot. This one was not as much fun as some of the other ones, except for the fact Brittany Murphy is the most unconvincing scientist I have ever seen.It is also nice to know that when an earthquake happens, you do the same thing as when Russian missiles attack... get under the table. Whatever happened to standing in the doorway?Tough to sit through

Truck Driver . . . ."I've got a quake on my tail!" This is a just one of many memorable lines from this testimony to the scientific dumbing down of America, and particularly American Cinema. Years ago, I thought that "Volcano" was as bad as it could get, wasting the acting chops of Tommy Lee Jones and providing insult after insult to those with a general appreciation of the way the earth works. But no, SyFy has provided us with a series of cataclysms (and I refer to their movies, not the storyline) that reach depths never before attempted. No effort was expended to bring realism to this picture. Therefore it produces no emotions in the viewer, besides shame that the time was wasted. Previous reviewers have a fine job taking this film apart, and I could take each scene and provide scientific criticism, but why? When there was no time spent by Paul Bales and Asylum, why should I?The film is rated PG-13 for disturbing images, how accurate. To those actors whose names appear in the cast, I honor your efforts and your need to make a living. I hope that for the rest of your lives you can avoid associations with pictures like Megafault.Never thought I'd look forward so much to the next showing of Dante's Peak.

The concept did seem good on paper, but potential is ruined by terrible execution. The film is badly made, with static camera shots and some of the laziest both in how they look and how they are used effects I've seen in a film recently. The dialogue just increasingly gets inane, the story is repetitive and dull with a predictable ending and the characters throughout act like idiots. The direction furthermore is a mess and the pace is uneven and meandering. The acting despite how talented the cast are is not good at all. Brittany Murphy, she was beautiful, she was talented, sadly she has a poor character and script to work from, so at the end of the day it's all wasted talent.Overall, terrible. SyFy have done worse, but that's not really a consolation considering how poor an effort this is. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Shocking acting to a dull and predictable plot with truly appalling special effects. Were they trying to make the worst move ever? I didn't know anyone did special effects this bad any more; especially surprising when you consider what Monsters just achieved on a low budget with a laptop.I watched Megafault having enjoyed Eriq La Salle in ER. It is very sad to see him in such a poor movie.Sometimes movies are so bad they can be funny, but this one insists on taking itself seriously. At least my wife and I enjoyed trying to outdo each other in describing who terrible Megafault was, but it would have been better to just turn it off.
