This is the worst movie ever, nonsense. I wasted time 30 min watching and could not continue. I think Lingaa should stop acting in the movie ever. This is the worst movie ever, nonsense. I went to see this movie with my family, I didn't have I expectations but I was totally unprepared for the horror that awaited. The movie, in my opinion, was the worst movie this year. The beginning was a bit funny, thanks to Santhanam's comedy, but the flashback was a disaster. I know there are many kind people in the world, but come on, who in their right minds would be kind enough to lose their post, all their wealth and their status all for some people whom they've never met before? Actually, I was sort of rooting for the evil British guy, because he was WAY MORE likable. Sonakshi Sinha was very irritating and the whole plot was sort of unbelievable, and not in a good way. The ending was even worse! The filmmakers rushed the end way too quickly, with not enough time to get to know the main villain all that well. I know Superstar is old, but was it necessary to put in all that jumping and prancing around. And there were loads of goofs too, such as:1. When Lingaa is hiding with Anushka in the cupboard, Anushka accidentally steps out. The CCTV camera would have picked this up and when the police review the CCTV footage, they would have seen her. Yet, the police do not call her for an inquiry.2. After he stole the necklace, he put it on Anushka and walked out in a crowd. There had to be some guards nearby and even if there weren't, it's very unlikely that nobody saw the huge necklace and wondered why someone would be wearing a priceless necklace in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.3. When he was trapped in the temple, he was wearing his normal clothes, the temple is dusty and full of cobwebs and there is no source of fire. But, when the temple opened, he was wearing a dhoti, the temple looks good as new and they had fire (even if there was a fire source, it is highly unlikely that it would still function after 70 years). 4. Why did the villain bring Anushka on the hot air plane? I know he loved her and all, but by then, he had known she was on Lingaa's side, so he must have guessed she would try to stop him.5. At the end the police forgive Lingaa for theft and just ask him to come for an inquiry because he was "royalty". He was a thief who stole a priceless jewel and eluded police capture, yet the police are very kind to him. These are only some of the faults in this movie, so do yourselves a favor and DON'T WATCH this movie.

Watched Lingaa!! Well, the first 20 minutes was really unbearable, after which some respite, came with the nicely done slow motion fight scene on top of moving train. Though the movie is watchable once...it doesn't have the energy of a Padaiyappa, nor it induce pathos like Muthu, and definitely not the style and masala like Shivaji or Robo if one wants to draw a comparison. Can call it an average Rajni movie. One thing very evident through out the movie was clearly the star has aged. I think after this he should accept roles which matches his age like Amithabh does, take for example Sarkar, Baghban or even some thing like Drishyam etc, where the roles demand a more dignified star power. ARR's music is also nothing to write about. Nor the production quality. In fact I can say the production quality is below average, no single scene looks like it was set in pre-independence era. The Slow motion fight scene is brilliant, looks like cut and pasted from some other movie. May be they outsourced that bit..who knows.

Linga (Rajini) is a petty thief surrounded by his friends (Santhanam, karunakaran and others) and he is approached by Lakshmi (anushka) who wants him to come to her hometown. The reason being, Linga is the grandson of the king Raja Lingeswara (Rajini again) and he has to open a temple which is locked since 70 years. But Linga hates his grandfather because he is left with nothing. But situations force him to go to that place. What happens from there forms the rest. The director has come up with a good storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was very engaging. The dialogues were well written. The script was okay and the screenplay was energetic. The background score was upto the mark and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Graphics department did a very good job. Editing was crisp. Costumes were well designed to suit the backdrop and royalty while the art department was majestic. Rajnikanth was excellent in both his roles and he has is the main reason to watch the film.He is a living legend, one of the greatest actors and proves this with Lingaa again.Anushka looks nice and did her part well. Sonakshi is a natural beauty and she was effective. Santhanam brought few smiles. Karunakaran was okay. K Viswanath was graceful. Jagapathi Babu was apt. Falk Calumbo was good. Lauren Irwin was neat. William Orendorff was adequate. Others did their bit as required and added value. When a superstar like Rajnikanth is in the lead, anything and everything goes beyond the aspect of analysis and is considered taken. In this film, the first half goes about with elements of some comedy, romance and some action. The interval bang was good and the second half was powerful and it touches the soul. Overall, the film works due to the Rajini factor and the pace leaving no dull moment. This film in a way is a reflection of Rajini sir itself because he preaches in the film what he has done, he helped this country progress, and has left his name in history forever. It would be obvious to state this film is a must watch, but to all Indians out there head to the theatre to watch this spectacle. A blockbuster!!! 5/5* or 10/10
