It was a good action movie. The movie was based of the popular video game on Playstation 1. I only saw it because I played the game, and I really liked playing it. It was one of my favourite Playstation 1 games back then, so it's inevitable I would eventually see this movie. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was entertaining. Don't expect too much though. Just enjoy it for what it was. It feels almost similar to the video game.

On the verge of a cosmic event which happens only once every five thousand years, the famous Lara Croft finds about an ancient artifact, split in half, which grants the one who puts it back together godly powers. As an evil organization seeks it for its own purpose, Lara must act quick in order to prevent a greater evil from being unleashed. It's a movie which takes a famous video-game character and puts it in the middle of an adventure, just like it would in one of the many games of the series. Unfortunately, this and choosing Angelina as Lara Croft are the only good aspects of the film. It's like the producers thought that it's enough to have a popular character, put it in a movie and just expect the outcome. The plot is bad, to say the least, linear, predictable and almost thrill-less, the characters are extremely simplistic and annoying, making you wonder many times what are they doing in the picture, while the special effects are plain awful. You can search for movies a couple of decades before this one which simply look awesome by comparison. It also has plenty of action but, due to the above mentioned facts and the extremely exaggerated implementation of it, it doesn't manage to generate thrill or suspense, a must in this type of movies. It feels rushed. It feels like it's made just to be made, like somebody came one day with an idea to use the name Tomb Raider without any type of effort, without a decent plot, without decent supporting characters or antagonists and even without decent special effects. It leaves you with the impression that it is just a rip-off of a very popular name, although the overall result isn't all that catastrophic. It's undoubtedly a bad movie, one which leaves you very disappointed, especially if you had some kind of hope or affection regarding Lara.

I'll be honest with you here, I hadn't even heard of Angelina Jolie until my brother gave me his copy of this DVD having abandoned it during some of the early scenes.By this time I was already playing and enjoying the early games - notably TR II before I played the original and progressed to TR III in that order.TR II was a masterpiece in terms of gaming. It was vibrant and diverse, covering many locations - most notably Venice and China, locations that were covered in the two Jolie movies combined to my recollection, among others. In order to play the heroine, Jolie had to gain muscle and play the games - in essence she had to BECOME Lara Croft. She had to absorb the quirky traits of this steadfast character in order to deliver an accurate portrayal to fans of the games ("Raiders" as we call ourselves). Jolie performed many of her own stunts to her credit and was on a high protein diet in order to bulk up to the athletic standard required. The only thing that lets this movie down is arguably the dialogue in spite of a very touching scene between Jolie and Voight - her then real- life estranged father. It was the pain of their real-life situation that oozed through the screen with a sense of great sadness. Jolie's accent was flawless but I feel the dialogue could have been less twee in parts. The reason my older brother abandoned the movie was due to a rather reality-suspending scene of an ambush in Croft Manor. Character Lara was engaged in some form of indoor bungee exercise wearing some sort of satin pyjama set yet, initially unarmed, managed to single-handedly take out an entire SWAT team with her cunning and athletic prowess, only managing to tool-up when she snatches a weapon from one of her bungee- captives. If you are happy to suspend belief then your kids will enjoy it. The sequel is more Bond-like however and a more believable movie. Nice to see a younger Daniel Craig in this debut TR film though!

Video game adventuress Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts.Angelina Jolie has had a strange career. She started out as the daughter of Jon Voight (who plays her father here). Whether that helped her or not, I do not know. But she landed some roles in "Hackers" and "Lara Croft". She married Brad Pitt, the king of Hollywood. She is seen as a humanitarian and is now (2015) establishing herself as a director. What a career! This film is a little bit silly. The adventure and action is not realistic, but being based on a video game, it probably shouldn't be. Fun? Yes. And apparently quite successful, since it spawned at least one sequel.
