Just Before I Go is a quirky black comedy with a lot of heart. Usually Sean William Scott plays a college doofus, however, in possibly his best role, he plays a troubled 41 year old who has given up on life. I found this movie in the LGBT section of STAN, however Sean's character is straight and the gay theme is about his younger nephew who is struggling to come to terms with being gay. It is handled quite well, and the struggle is palpable. Over all the movie is quirky, which I love, and each of the characters are well played and well developed. There are a few classic one liners to lift up what would otherwise be quite a sad movie. I really did enjoy this, definitely worth a look.

As a parting shot he decides to fulfil a rather sad bucket list - confront the school bully etc. This film is a massive mess. It opens with a very bland monologue that has you edging towards the remote. Then, as the lead goes about his plans all the surrounding characters unload their personal baggage on to him.He gets the full load too, resentment, bitterness, jealousy, homophobia, body image, infidelity, regret etc. etc. etcCarving up this convey belt of pain are a number of misplaced knob and vagina gags. The strange thing is, I kind of enjoyed this movie. It is over the top, badly put together but somehow fun. The hipster in me was screaming in outrage as I laughed along to some really childish set pieces. The cast is all great, production great. Shouldn't work, but does - for me anyway.
... View MoreThis was a nice little surprise of a movie. It was at times hilarious, serious and heartfelt, sad and surprising. The acting was superb by everyone. I was never a fan of Mr. Scott. All I pictured him in was 'Dude, Where's My Car?", but this performance has turned me around. He was very likable in it, and not hard to look at. I liked how things unfolded in the story of his confronting his past experiences and making new realizations, and also the side stories of his nephew and brother. This has some crude humor, which I am not into at all, but after cringing, I was also laughing. I even watched it with my 72 year old mother, who is definitely more of a clean-humor fan, and she loved it. Ms. Cox might have a nice little future in directing going by this example, especially seeing how it is her first.
