Well I do not know much about Indian cinema, even though I like many of them, like Life of Pi, in terms of costumes and photography, Jodhaa Akbar is impeccable, the look is too beautiful, the film has a serious problem, it is Longer than it should, when the film has more than three hours, it has great risks of being tiring, for example I think that two and a half hours is the perfect time, few films of more than three hours did not leave me with tedium at all A few minutes (Braveheart, Spartacus, Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, Amadeus, Gladiator, Goodfellas and more), the script can not sustain so many hours, and the direction is hampered by this, the battle scenes are weak, Which is neat that was poorly choreographed, Jodhaa Akbar is a weak film, even with a good cast, and a visually impeccable being left a lot to be desired. Note 5.6
... View MoreThis was such a long and period movie. Hrithik is overconfident, sexy, stylish. He gets to show off his body to his rajput wife. Aishwarya has no make up which makes her look naive and pretty. I still don't know if this movie made it as box office hit in India or not. It was so long that it should be seen only once. Hrithik acting was good and fight scenes were impressive but you need a lot of patience to see this movie. Their chemistry rocks again after dhoom 2. I feel that hrithik was too perfect acting in this movie(can be bad,can be good) The songs have to be good and composed well by A R rehman. It can be predictable movie for some.
... View MoreThis epic is nearly four hours long but doesn't fully justify its length. Both Hrithik and Aishwarya are good in the title roles, but the film's pacing drags. There isn't enough dramatic tension in the simplistic plot so the directer invents a fictional character played (well) by Ila Arun. This results in a long segment that feels lifted out of a Balaji television soap. The music by AR Rehman is good with a few melodious tracks. There's an obligatory villain and a climactic fight scene but it's only moderately exciting. Watch at home on television or DVD.Overall 6/10
... View MoreLet me start by saying that I watch less than 5 "bollywood" movies a year. So my perspective comes from one of an Indian-American who is familiar with the culture but not immersed. I had seen Lagaan, Swades and enjoyed both thoroughly. So going into Jodhaa-Akbar, I had high expectations. Unfortunately they might have been too high. The positives: The movie looks stunning. On par or better than any Hollywood epic. The actors are generally good (and obviously very good looking) and the dialogue is good. The songs themselves were decent although there were only 3-4.The negatives: I didn't go in expecting to see an accurate historical portrayal or anything even close. I went in expecting to be entertained. So the fact that most of the story never happened is irrelevant. The biggest problem was that the movie didn't know what it wanted to be. Was it a history lesson? was it a love story? The movie dragged and the segues between the love story and the story of Akbar's rule were just awkward. At no point do I feel that Jodhaa and Akbar gave a damn about each other. Akbar feels like an angst filled teen and Jodhaa has 2 emotions: happy and angry/sad. Too many scenes that felt like they were just praising Akbar as opposed to making us actually think of Akbar as great.I really wish they had dropped the entire subplot with Sujamal/Sharifuddin and concentrated on Akbar trying to woo Jodhaa and Jodhaa liking Akbar. And the movie dragged for ever.I can't believe I asked for romance in a bollywood flick :)
