All the actors/actresses played their parts well IMO, but the story is horrible. Synopsis; girl has what she thinks is a bad life, runs away, to more crazy and worse life...the big issue is the way the story and directing go about it...it's like they're trying to pull off some cult classic feel like pulp fiction, or kill bill....but this never gets it right...which is horrible for all the actors/tresses because every time they have to convey an emotion or look, they get it right. But the story is a major disjointed pile of trash, poorly directed, and IF this story merited a movie, it was poorly written. Watch Gimme Shelter if you want a movie with "a girl got beat down, but made it out with help" in a sane and thoughtful approach. Hick is a waste of valuable minutes out of a life that you can never reclaim.
... View MoreBy no means spectacular, oh no, but for a reason I can't explain I actually quite enjoyed Hick, it was engaging and provocative and hit all the right notes in the right way.The character Luli (what a name!) played by the sublimely talented Chloe Grace Moretz is the type of character, and the type of person in real life that I seriously detest, what do these young girls expect, I'm running away from home because I want to go to Vegas, but to get there I need to accept lifts off strangers, snort cocaine, rob places, and be privy to murders..., what!? Stay at home, stay at school, make something of yourself, silly brat! Credit to Chloe Grace for a performance so fine I didn't once get worked up about the characters antics, now that's a sign of a good actor!Eddie Redmayne as his namesake Eddie, Lord oh Lord what do we have here, the ultimate scumbag with no morals and a creepy, clingy demeanour strong enough to put off even the hardiest of viewers..., again the part was played by a highly talented up and comer, and the emotions he evoked were top class.Blake Lively usually a pretty girl plays an anything but pretty girl in the form of chain-smoking, coke snorting Glenda who takes our Luli under her irresponsible wing, showing the youngster all the do not's and hard truths about the society they have the misfortune of living in. The story is predictable hence why I couldn't rate the film any higher, but it wasn't about the story here, it was about characterisation and strong performances by the whole cast made the film enjoyable. I am so glad Chloe Grace has made herself something in the realms of Hollywood since this film was released, she has all the attributes to be a top star, one of the defining actresses of her generation.
... View MoreI had relatively low expectations for this film - the negative reviews were not promising, but it features two well known actors whose other movies I liked, so I decided to give it a shot. After seeing this film, I would rate it somewhere between 6 and 7.The strongest feature of this film is the acting. The actors are fantastic - Chloe Grace Moretz plays a sassy, irritating, ignorant little hillbilly girl but manages to balance it off with cuteness and naivety. Most actresses would easily take it too far and just come off as plain annoying, but Chloe at such a young age knew just how much she could get away with such behavior before switching back to remind you that she is just a vulnerable girl. Great job.Eddie Redmayne perfectly pulled off a southern accent and the mannerisms of a redneck, which is a complete contrast to his British background and Eton school upbringing. But that's not all: despite playing a role where he is supposed to be a creepy villain, he injects a good dose of quirky vulnerability to it, making you sympathise with his character. I was never so undecided about a fictional character before, as I did not know whether to feel sorry for him or despise him. His face and voice displayed so much raw emotion that you simply cannot hate his character. This wasn't an easy task - his character Eddie was a one dimensional villain in the book, and Redmayne's performance gave the movie an advantage over the book in my opinion. Therefore, I would recommend everyone to watch the film solely for his acting. Now the downside to this movie was the story, which had so much potential. The dialogue and the huge number of coincidences make it seem like the script was based of a fan-fiction story and it doesn't get very exciting. The climax of the tale was dampened with a rushed scenario that did not leave an impact when it could have. More things could have happened which would make this film richer but the potential was unfortunately never exploited.I notice that most people complained about the sexual undertones of the story and the fact that such a young actress plays a role where she is a target to predators. I do not understand such complaints, because sexually exploited prepubescent girls is a very real problem in every country which needs to be addressed instead of being ignored in the media. If anything, every teenage girl should see this film to reminded of what dangers await for them out there, especially since many girls romanticize the notion of running away from home and hold idealistic views of falling in love with a 'bad boy'.I personally think this film is better than what the critics say about it. I'd give it a 6.5 if I could, but I rounded it up to a generous 7/10.
... View MoreI have always been a big Chloe Grace moretz fan! She is one of my favorite actresses and even though this film got bad reviews i decided to give it a try and i was Surprised!!! It is extremely underrated! It had an all star cast, an interesting story, great Cinemotagraphy, Realism and Extremely good acting! Chloe Grace Moretz gave one of her best performances so far in this film! She puts actresses 15 years older than her to shame! I highly recommend watching this movie! It can be depressing and , yes it does have some minor flaws but this is a great film! I loved it! This only made me respect Chloe Grace Moretz even more! The Cinemotagraphy really captured the 1970's era and it felt real too! I don't understand how this film got such bad reviews! I Highly recommend this to Fans of Chlloe Grace Moretz! This Film I Worth Seeing Just for her Performance alone! Bravo!
