The final film to end the suffering of this franchise and surprisingly doesn't disappoint. Two friends head to Mexico to find forbidden pleasure and happen upon the box with disastrous consequences ensure. One year later their families hope for their return and have father for a quite evening at home. Now one has come home after escaping his hellish prison bringing his tormentors in toe. What I enjoyed enjoyed about revelations was dogging into its roots by actually Pinhead a crucial character once again and showing the nightmarish world inside & out of the box. I wish Doug Bradley hadn't wasted his talent on inferior sequels and had stuck around for one more round about, but Collins wasn't to bad.The effects were very realistic and frightening. It felt like I was seeing real blood splatter and flesh being ripped by the cursed chains. It being a back the sexy vibe, dark secrets revealed and has a shocking ending you'll never see coming.Revelations was the sequel you've been waiting four after the phenomenal first four.
... View More"Hellraiser: Revelations" does wonders with its primary limitations: small budget, short set time, and no Doug Bradley. But, as a fan of Clive Barker's world, I got everything I wanted: an expansion of the suspenseful Pinhead, and a formulaic honesty to the original two films before "Hellraiser III" transitioned the lively horror-drama into a pop franchise. Unlike the other 2000-era 'Hellraiser' films, "Revelations" honors the first two films by making Pinhead and the illustrious Box prominent foundations of the plot. It includes other gems of the originals as well: themes of the flesh, a complex family drama, and torturous visual artistry that isn't only gory, but also resonates within a dark part of our primordial psyche. Pinhead's presence is highly rewarding and a lot of fun to observe. But the character's longer dialogue seems written more fitly for an expansive 'Hellraiser' TV series, which makes you miss Doug Bradley's demigod-like presence all the more; with him, less was always more when it came to dialogue. I love 'Hellraiser' films because the fantasy is so intermingled with the conditions of human life. Everything we ever feared about sin, Hell, God, and evil comes to the surface through Clive Barker's themes. This film is conscious of these resonances and does its best to continue them. However demonic and detached he is, Pinhead is more humanoid in his motives and mannerisms than Jason, Freddy, and Michael combined. We want to go deeper with him. "Revelations" is that next step forward into Pinhead's realm since "Bloodline" which marked the conclusion of Barker's direct influence on the films.
... View MoreAbout the only good thing I can say about this one is that it was, at least, written to be a "Hellraiser" movie. The problem is, it's a crappie one. A really shitty one. Apparently the only reason this movie was made (and in a matter of a few weeks at that) was for Dimension films to meet a contractual guideline. Reportedly unhappy with the quality of the production franchise linchpin Doug "Pinhead" Bradley IMDb refused to participate. It starts out as a half-ass-ed found footage movie and slides right into a half-ass-ed trapped in a cabin movie. The new cenobites (especially Pinhead) look terrible and they all seem to inhabit a studio apartment rather than a hell limited only by the darkest imagination. The cheap video quality neuters any atmosphere and the terrible script is supported by equally terrible actors.
... View MoreAfter dragging the franchise everywhere on Earth and even off it for one flick Revelations brought the series back to its roots and reminds me of the first two, but with better acting over all. I didn't like that Doug Bradley didn't play Pinhead, but that was his choice and he missed a good opportunity. If he had been there it would have been perfect.I'm not sure where the title came from as not much is revealed to us in this film. I have always like in this series that nothing is taboo and this film did not let me down in that. I do hope that Doug gets back on board if they make anymore Hellraiser films. Nobody can do it as well.
