This is one of the worst remakes ever. From the opening scene that virtually doomed it right from the beginning with an iguana watching before a nuclear explosion, to the fools behind the camera tossing everything the Toho told them to do, this is just one dumb movie. They actually filmed it near where I work, so I did get some nice pictures of the tank equipment. But the movie is a flop. Miscast, poorly written and just dumb, it's the worst Godzilla movie ever made. I'm glad Toho made fun of it in Godzilla final wars when the real Godzilla wipes the matt with this Jurassic Park cast off.
... View MoreI'm a big fan of Godzilla, and I was very excited for this movie. I remember getting Godzilla on video, and I use to watch it several times. I remember watching it on television on one Sunday, and it was just as enjoyable. The movie was actually good, and feel it may be a little underrated. The plot was interesting, and that was probably the best thing about this movie. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was that there wasn't enough of Godzilla which was a surprise considering the title of this movie is: Godzilla. What I don't understand is why this movie gets a lot of hate. Yes, it does have its flaws, but so do most movies out there. Maybe a lot of people were expecting this movie to be like previous Godzilla movies, but that's obviously not going to happen in Hollywood - at least for now. Unlike other Godzilla movies, this Godzilla movie has a good story for audiences to follow. The movie is a bit long, but I feel that's a good thing because it's interesting to follow. Like I mentioned, the plot is very good. It gets even more better as the movie progresses. I could watch this again if I wanted to since it was enjoyable. If you're a fan of Godzilla, you would like it otherwise you won't.

View MoreIn between the post-Hiroshima anxiety of Gojira (1954) and the retributive-Gaia wonder of Godzilla (2014) there lies this Roland Emmerich disaster film, appropriately adapted to his action/comedy intensive priorities. Now let's talk about Zilla or GITO (Godzilla in Name Only). Creature designer Patrick Tatopolous (sound familiar?) was aware that Jan de Bont's cancelled Godzilla film had been rejected in-part because of disagreements with Toho concerning the character concepts. Tatopolous distanced his design from Toho's and De Bont's mostly out of his respect for the original Japanese monster. This distance pays off, visually. A problem I'd long had with Tsuburaya's monster was (relative realism considered) just how bottom-heavy he is. GITO is much more mobile than old Thunder-Thighs, which properly matched Emmerich's vision of a high-speed chase with a titanic reptile. Any Emmerich fan can at least appreciate the ways that this film avoids simply trying to one-up an already established cinematic mold.
... View MoreSo this movies about a giant mutated iguana which decides to stomp around New York for absolutely no reason. After stomping around for a little while it gets scared off by the military. After barely escaping a military assault with it's life, it comes to the brilliant conclusion that New York city is the safest place to start a nest! Hah what an intelligent animal! And then at the end it gets killed by a couple of missiles from a few jets.I sincerely thought that this pathetic;wimpy monster would be canon fodder for Godzilla for quiet some time. And then a worthy opponent would show up towards the end to do battle with Godzilla. BUT GODZILLA NEVER SHOWED UP! Most misleadingly titled movie ever!
