Nina, an art dealer, has her weekly massage appointment and is surprised to find out her usual masseur, Douglas, has sent a replacement named Fitch. The pair develop an easy rapport during the session, with talk about past relationships. As Nina lies topless on the massage table, Fitch also takes time to explain various massage techniques, including those used by Hopi medicine men.

Mimi Rogers is a buxom lady, beautiful like a statuette and Nicholas Roeg's aptly titled Full Body Massage takes full advantage of this fact. She becomes the subject and camera swirls and swipes around her in majestic ways. Bryan Brown plays the masseur who is called on by Rogers for her weekly therapeutic sessions. If you go in with the idea that this is softcore pornography movie you'd be disappointed. Yes, there is nudity but the conversations between the two leads are engaging and interesting. This is one of the great examples why Nicholas Roeg is such an auteur- he can make the most inane subjects and create something special with it. This is an artsy film so go in with that mindset.

An interesting TV movie from Roeg who uses his dream like camera zooms and flashbacks to great advantage in the restriction of one major location. Brown gives one of his best performance in a role that you would never have cast him in.

The film is really just Bryan Brown giving Mimi Rogers a massage while they talk of various things, mostly philosophical, and interspersed with flashbacks of their respective lives. You could say that it's slow, and I suppose that it is, but I found this movie to be refreshingly different. No car chases, no guns, no drugs, no smart-assed hero. Mimi Rogers spends a fair amount of time naked and this is, of course, very, very, very, very aesthetically pleasing. I have to wonder about Imdb's rating system when the "weighted average" is 5.6 and the real average is 7.6. At least they do publish the mean and median scores.

This occasionally interesting film has a number of good qualities, but frequently I found that the never-ending conversation wasn't very interesting. This was a very relaxing film to watch, thanks in large part to the constant massaging. Unfortunately, with much of the dialogue being somewhat dull, I found myself getting sleepy at times. Therefore, it was a bit of a hassle trying to stay awake through the film. Sometimes, the conversation was enjoyable, and certainly Mimi is nice to look at, but I can't recommend any film when it is this easy to fall asleep while watching it.
