As Good as It Gets Trailers

Melvin Udall, a cranky, bigoted, obsessive-compulsive writer of romantic fiction, is rude to everyone he meets, including his gay neighbor, Simon. After Simon is hospitalized, Melvin finds his life turned upside down when he has to look after Simon's dog. In addition, Carol, the only waitress at the local diner who will tolerate him, must leave work to care for her sick son, making it impossible for Melvin to eat breakfast.

I watched this movie again for about the fourth time with the same goal as always - trying to figure out what in the world was "good" in the movie. Where in the world was ANYTHING desirable portrayed in the movie? This time, though, I asked myself what "it" was? I asked "As good as WHAT gets?" It was shortly after I asked myself this that Jack Nicholson sang the Monty Python tune "Look at the bright side of life." Then all the pieces fit into place. Yes, "it" is life... but I realized I suffered from a greater misunderstanding of the title. The title isn't "As Good As You Could Hope"... it was basically, "This Is As Good As Your Sorry A** Is Ever Going To See."Now that I "see" the movie as it was intended, now that the mystery has been solved... I am terribly disappointed. This movie is filled with A List names, but I would rate the movie itself as a C. That is "as good as it gets" from me.

See this movie if you haven't. Even if you don't like romantic comedies, because this movie changed my mind about romantic comedies. 10/10

It's supposed to be a classic award-winning romantic comedy film, but I didn't find it funny, I don't think the performances were quite oscar-worthy, and the romance/story left me feeling confused, uncomfortable, and annoyed.

How can a mean-spirited, foul-mouthed homophobic man be friends with a soft-hearted gay artist, and even make a beautiful waitress fall in-love with him? Watch this tale of unlikely friendships and romance to find out.I have to say that I enjoyed the story. Jack Nicholson delivered some of the darkly humorous lines. He nailed it. The seemingly meanest man on Earth actually has a good heart, and I find that endearing. I wish his character was explored more, we don't know so much about his past or why he is so scornful. Helen Hunt is magnificent. Her quick changes of reaction, from being angry to sad to happy and so on, are just perfect. She really deserved her Oscar win, and so did Nicholson. It's a good romantic comedy movie you can enjoy watching on a lazy afternoon. It's funny, it can be sad, and at times moving, especially when he cried because Greg already took back the dog. The ending is really nice.
