Though we ousted the British in a revolution, this country has a tendency to treat the children of the president as if they're royalty. Apparently, the media doesn't help either in this situation. This is essentially the story of a first daughter attempting to taste some sort of freedom when she goes off to college.Michael Keaton plays a rather benign president here. Margaret Colin, as his wife, is political to the hilt. You'd think that the story would surround itself with independence. While it has it, I was disappointed to see that the film deals with love between the daughter and a secret service agent no less.I just loved when the daughter repeated in a literature class a situation similar to that of her own, when she talks about a prince always being a prince no matter what.

It is interesting to see actor Forest Whitaker directing, and narrating, this chick flick teen romantic comedy. The teenage daughter of U.S. President John Mackenzie (Michael Keaton), Samantha (Katie Holmes) is going off to college hoping to have a normal life without the Secret Service keeping an eye on her, but they are. They are agreeing to give her a little space, but she meets James Lansome (Marc Blucas) who is secretly an undercover agent playing a student. In the time they spend together, Samantha - the first daughter, and James fall in love, until of course she learns his real identity, and has words to say to her Dad, but don't worry, everything is settled in the end. Also starring singer Amerie as Mia Thompson, Margaret Colin as Melanie Mackenzie, Independence Day's Lela Rochon Fuqua as Liz Pappas, Michael Milhoan as Agent Bock, Dwayne Adway as Agent Dylan and a brief Joan Rivers. This is one of those films that might have a good title and have one or two good people, but it turns out to be one of the most boring films ever, I just couldn't get into it, and it was just about a waste of time. Pretty poor!

Katie Holmes looked great and those Vera Wang gowns especially the light pink one is extraordinary and worth watching for! I enjoyed this movie as a light fluffy retreat, I don't think it's as bad as the ratings say. I thought the chemistry was just right between Katie and James. I do think the acting was believable and the dad and mom were particularly good. I wish the ending had been a little different though because I thought it was left a little too open. I wanted her to run off in the car with James. My favorite moment was the day she flew them out on Airforce one, it was a fairytale kind of moment.

Favorite movie, Katie & Marc's chemistry is awesome. Hope they will come back with a Continuation of the First Daughter 2, after college.Just a smooth, easy watching movie, that keeps you right there, no matter how many times you watch it. Watch any and all the movies that play on T>V> either with Marc Blucas & or Katie Holms. And she is from my area, her home town, Toledo, Ohio, is only 35 mi. from my town.If I had to choose, between Tom Cruise, ( and I really like his movies too, Top Gun) or Marc, Marc would win. They make First Daughter the great movie it is., and one I'll watch over & over again, and again.
