I highly recommend watching this film with a loved one so you have someone to hold and use as a human tissue, rather than seeing it all by yourself cold and alone on a laptop at 2am like i did.rest in peace andrew and zachary bagby. everyone should see this film; those who grew up here in newfoundland, and especially those suffering from suicidal thoughts. nothing but love for kathleen and david bagby. god help us all.

This Documentary ranks in the top 3 documentaries of all time next to 'Thin Blue Line' and 'Man on Wire'. Some people may dispute my top 3 list, however I will argue why I think that Dear Zachary is better than the other two. Thin Blue Line was notable for exonerating a man from a wrongful conviction. Man on Wire is a real life heist movie with an incredible story about the World Trade Towers in New York.Dear Zachary encompasses two themes that mirror the aforementioned and combine into a greater narrative: the story of an evil murderous woman who was never properly convicted and a story of several terrible crimes that went unpunished and lead to the exposure of major dysfunction in the Canadian justice/legal system. This documentary is not for the weak of heart but for those interested in the film aspects, it is evident that the filmmaker has made a painstaking effort to assemble footage in a way that hurt his very soul to share with you. A more honest documentary has never been made.

I watched this documentary tonight and apart from being in tears, I'm actually very moved. What an amazing documentary! I must say after watching it that i think Andrew's parents (Zachary's grandparents) are truly amazing! The way they changed their whole life and fought to be a part of their grandsons life is so inspiring. I must hand it to them i couldn't have the strength to play nice with the woman i knew killed my son. I think it's great how so many of Andrew's friends talked so highly of him and continue to support his parents after his death. When i was watching it i was hoping really for a happy ending where Zachary could be with his grandparents but unfortunately that didn't happen. Be prepared to use tissues because this is an extremely sad story.

I knew nothing of this story, and purely watched based on the positive reviews. From the opening minutes, you become immersed in a world of sadness, pain, beauty and hope all at once. If you only ever watch one documentary in your life, make it this one.Knowing as little as possible about the story is advantageous, as the narrative takes you in many different directions. You heart aches for so many of the people involved, and the courage in moving forward in their lives serves as a great inspiration to us all. Please watch this film. In a business where churning out meaningless scripts all with the view to making a fast buck are filling our theaters, it's so important to celebrate the light and dark of humanity through wonderful filmmaking like this.
