A lonely teenage horror-movie fan discovers a mysterious computer game that uses hypnosis to custom-tailor the game into the most terrifying experience imaginable. When he emerges from the hypnotic trance he is horrified to find evidence that the brutal murder depicted in the game actually happened -- and he's the killer....This was one of those films that was tailor made for the child actor, coming on strong from his recent turn in terminator 2, and the film as a whole disappoints in droves.18 years ago, I doubt this would have been state of the art stuff, with all the video games (on CD, wow) and the one horrible use of CGI, the film does no favours for anyone involved, and should have been forgotten about, much like the Sega Saturn.Furlong looks bored throughout, and instead of being psychotic and crazy, the Trickster ends up just a little bit too snobby and boring.Langella pops up for some gravitas, and really the end product just paved a way for the equally terrible fear dot com, and untraceable.Which all three of these films should be.
... View MoreI love movies. Action, drama, romance, science fiction - you name it, I love it. However, horror has always held a special place in my heart. Sci fi is there to awe us with futuristic possibilities (or impossibilities, as many acquainted with actual science may say); romance is meant to make us feel happy for those two who fall in love. Horror is special, though; rather than make us feel good, we are supposed to be, well, horrified. Unfortunately, this film didn't scare me, just as few, if any, ever have. However, as a work of art (something which I think all films are), Brainscan was excellent.Dealing with a sixteen year old boy (T2's Eddie Furlong) who comes upon a video game that puts him within the eyes of a murderer, Michael experiences horror after horror when he finds himself essentially inside a truly scary horror flick. There were flaws, as there are in even the greatest of films, and many avenues which I thought could have been investigated; the film definitely would not have ended the way it had had I written in, yet it did have quite the humorous ending (in the blackest sense).I give it an 8/10 rating, and hope to see many more like it. Also, if I may offer my recommendation, be it this: eXistenZ

He thinks it is a game until he discovers just how real it is.Once he is in, he can't get out. He is falling deeper and deeper until - well, you just have to see for yourself what happens. It was an interesting movie that kept you guessing and had some really good sci-fi elements to boot.
... View MoreI'm not great with reviews, I'm not even completely certain why when people ask me what my favorite movie of all time is.. I say Brainscan. There's just something about when I think of it..it takes me somewhere in my mind, a dark happy place. The two things that initially attracted me to this movie was the lead actor Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), and the soundtrack including bands like Primus, White Zombie, and Mudhoney. I don't have a real feel for horror flicks, but I love a good sci-fi, I think this movie would fall somewhere in between the two. In fact, I'm off to watch it now. Just remember...
