Really the title says it all. The audacity to cast that guy as a 17 year old is just incredible. They barely even try to make him look 17. It's good for other reasons but I'm obsessed with this

With no acting credentials Edward Furlong was plucked off the street to star in one of the best action sequels of all time Terminator 2. He then went on to play roles in some other fantastic flicks right before the Millennium, the kid works fast. Brainscan is a mail order computer game where players do their best to commit brutal crimes while at the same time leaving no trace of their actions. This was made during those awesome Grunge years in the early nineties so expect plenty of flannel and mid-tempo metal going on in the background. Furlong lives in a posh overly conceptualized attic room, complete with cutting edge electronics, full-size fridge, waterbed and scooter. Dad's got some high profile job and must leave the credit card home so Furlong can buy food and monitors and milk. This movie is directed by the guy who did the cult classic Rolling Thunder, Brainscan was actually one of his last movies. You really don't know until the end if crazy eddie is really killin or just thrilln. Frank Langella co-stars as the dead-pan detective whose role in the movie plays out like a mere formality. I miss the genre "Techno Thriller" which apparently means any movie that involves computers and killing in some way. This kid really did plenty of exiting work before Y2K and continues to burn up the screen, so check-it-out peeps, nine stars.

I'm not great with reviews, I'm not even completely certain why when people ask me what my favorite movie of all time is.. I say Brainscan. There's just something about when I think of it..it takes me somewhere in my mind, a dark happy place. The two things that initially attracted me to this movie was the lead actor Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), and the soundtrack including bands like Primus, White Zombie, and Mudhoney. I don't have a real feel for horror flicks, but I love a good sci-fi, I think this movie would fall somewhere in between the two. In fact, I'm off to watch it now. Just remember... "Real, unreal, what's the difference? So long as you don't get caught." - The Trickster

Brainscan is a fun, shocking, and enjoyable horror film that is one of the most underrated films around. Edward (T2) Furlong stars a troubled teen named Michael who loves horror movies and horror video games. His dad is never around and his mom died when he was a kid. He also likes to spy on his school-mate neighbor as she gets dressed. One day he gets a game disc in the mail for a new virtual reality game called Brainscan. A game in which you commit murders. But Michael soon finds a severed foot in his freezer and all hell breaks loose. Especially when the creepy and bizarre Trickster appears...guiding him to certain terror. This film was a pleasant surprised that had a charm about it. Furlong is believable as the troubled teen and turns in a great performance and T. Ryder Smith is both disturbing and cool as the evil demon behind the video game. Trickster easily steals the show. There is some good deaths and some decent gore. You get some T&A, a lot of hard rock music, a nosey detective, horror movie references, and some solid special effects. The movie seems to fly by and the end is a real treat. A solid horror rental for any horror fan. I have no idea why someone tried to compare this to "In the mouth of madness". Too bad the girl next door wasn't actually cute or attractive.
