Blue Crush 2 is a direct-to-video surfer film that is a sequel to Blue Crush. The screenplay is unrelated to the original movie. It features Sasha Jackson, Elizabeth Mathis, Ben Milliken, Sharni Vinson.Mike Elliott directs the the film.Frustrated with her privileged life in California, Dana has decided to run away to South Africa to find her late mother's spirit on the waves, embarking on a surfing trip to a foreign land. There she meets Pushy, a like-minded surfing soul who offers the brash blonde a place to stay when her belongings are stolen. Greeted by a community of surfers and beach bums, Dana finds love with singer and animal sanctuary volunteer Tim, rubs rival Tara the wrong way, and is targeted as an object of lust by shop owner Grant. With her water skills tested and her heart aching, Dana finds the trip refreshing her soul, while her nosy behavior uncovers a few ugly secrets held by the locals. What is rather ironic about a surfing movie is the fact that it doesn't actually feature an overwhelming amount of surfing footage as it prefers to deal with painful melodramatic detours like involving Tara's disapproval, Pushy's surfing fears, and Dana's father, who's come to South Africa to find his wayward daughter. It is packed with plot that is basically unnecessarily padding the run time to fulfill a full cinematic meal. Simplicity is lost, along with any entertainment value, as Elliot labors over moronic conflicts while supplying disappointingly routine surfing footage. What is so sad is the fact that the movie would rather spend time on formulaic plots and clichés rather than spend time with outdoor surfing.

I know several people that was involved in this production, and lots of them are disappointed and were not aware it's going to be such a bad movie. The target market are teens, but teens are way more discerning. It's really an insult to South African surfing, contains bad acting and there are lots of big continuity errors. For instance, the culminating competition in the story held at Jeffreys Bay was shot at a KZN South Coast spot (Look at the jet ski's registration number) You've got actors that can't surf and surfers that can't act. Bruce Gold was portrayed as a pilot, why did they not let him play himself? Why cast Twiggy and Jordy in non surfing roles? Then you have the girls take off on a wave, and suddenly when they zoom out, it's clearly visible they are on completely another wave, at another location. This is not the error of the cast and crew, I believe this is the error of the people that produced and directed this movie. What were they thinking? I guess their only goal was to sell a couple of DVD's to unsuspecting buyers and make something from rental outlets. If you have that kind of budget, why no produce something of more significance and a high standard?

You've got a bunch of barely out of high school kids living the life out in Africa. A surfer movie, which still tries to put in a bit of crime solving, a bit of a road trip, a bit of a love triangle and a bit of family drama. The acting in many parts was pretty mediocre, only a few highlights in there. Especially one scene where the father argues with the daughter sounds so rehearsed it's just ends up feeling weird. Another one was the in a tryout for a sponsorship contract in which the commentators sounded so bored you wondered if they hadn't been given their dose of Red Bull. The only thing this movie is consistent about is the use of music in almost every scene. There is no surprise in how the movie plays out, but on the other hand I guess it doesn't really try to be anything other than what it is: a feel good surfer movie. If you're into surfing you'll have loads of scenery to watch, and probably also get quite a bit of inspiration out of the waves. Others may just as well come up with something else to watch.

Blue Crush 2 tried to show the hard life of a surfer girl. The new approach of showing the hard life of a rich girl instead of a poor Hawaiian who just wanted to make it big, like they did in Blue Crush 1, wasn't a big thing for many people. The acting was good enough to keep you involved in the movie but the only thing that could have been better was the accents of the characters. Sasha Jackson constantly had her original dialect slip in the movie, which made it noticeable because she was playing the American surfer girl Dana. Elizabeth Mathis and Gideon Emery had convincing parts as Pushy and Dana's father and the characters of Tim, Tara, and Grant completed the story well. The acting of Sasha Jackson was OK but if they really wanted her as the rule they should of changed the storyline cause her accent sucked in the movie. The big plus was that the main actors/actress did do a decent part of their surfing. All in all the movie wasn't that bad, and in fact I bought it on DVD because I love when a low budget film does a good job of showing the storyline
