we thought this movie was very good. it was exactly what it was supposed to be, a feel good, romantic comedy. this movie had a lot of funny jokes in it. a lot better than the near porno crap that goes for comedy these days. this movie is highly underrated. and i don't understand why. a lot of funny characters. got to love anything with willie nelson in it. (who was by the way awesome at riverbend) me and my wife highly recommend this as a couples movie. if your going to watch this expecting the acting and story of ben hur or titanic , your probably not going to get it. but its a fun watch with your wife or girlfriend over takeout. i think the movie was cast well, they were nice to look at for the length of the movie. and its not a cheap production like you see in a lot of non theater released movies. i think couples or girls that just got broke up with will really enjoy this flick.

This movie had all the elements to be a smart, sparkling comedy, but for some reason it took the dumbass route. Perhaps it didn't really know who its audience was: but it's hardly a man's movie given the cast and plot, yet is too slapstick and dumb-blonde to appeal fully to women. If you have seen Legally Blonde and its sequel, then this is like the bewilderingly awful sequel. Great actors such as Luke Wilson should expect better material. Jessica Simpson could also have managed so much more. Rachael Leigh Cook and Penelope Anne Miller languish in supporting roles that are silly rather than amusing. Many things in this movie were paint-by-numbers, the various uber-cliché montages, the last minute "misunderstanding", even the kids' party chaos. This just suggests lazy scriptwriting. It should be possible to find this movie enjoyable if you don't take it seriously, but it's such a glaring could-do-better than you'll likely feel frustrated and increasingly disappointed as the scenes roll past.

I actually quite liked this movie, fair enough some of the acting was stretched......however i can really say that i enjoyed it, Jessica Simpson was nice to watch and played the character well... it was a typical chick flick...girl's boyfriend is scumbag, girl meets new boy, old boy comes back, dilemma, then its all fixed :P with a bit of fun in the end....i must say the strippers were very much loved, as were the singing priests :Pif nothing else, just give it a watch, its worth it...

Horrendously reviewed, one of the poorest turnouts in theater history, a total mess in development and IMDb reviewers are just skewering it but I had to see it...if not for these exact reasons...and my crush on Jessica Simpson, which significantly waned in the wake of seeing this. She really is one of the big problems in the film. Incredibly this might have something when it comes to being THAT bad. It might be able to pull off the so god awfully bad that it's good scenario although people will argue with me I have no doubt. Blonde Ambition is sickeningly sweet, dumb as hell, and yet there were moments I laughed out loud at both the stupidity and the slapstick comedy and overall it was kind of cute when all was said and done. It was kind of like your five year old and all their friends got together and performed a cute little play for you and as dumb as it is you can't help but smile. It's not completely without redemption like some reviewers have suggested and it's mercifully short and it does have some half decent performances...the starlet not withstanding. There are thousands of awful movies that someone out there likes and I will admit I enjoyed sitting through this.Jessica Simpson takes the helm in her first movie (only pulling off supporting eye candy previously) and potentially the character could have had something. I think the writers wrote it stupid, expected her to play it stupid and had no intention of it being serious. On top of that she looks awful. Her make up is on so heavy she looks like three Las Vegas Showgirls in one. Her lips are so blood red in some scenes it almost makes your stomach turn. Her character is supposed to be naive but most of the time comes across as dumb although they try to give her some redemption throughout the film. However despite what some say I DO think she pulls off the physical comedy and sometimes looks cute with her backwater country expressions. Luke Wilson, who can...sometimes act...is kind of bland as her pursuer and love interest. Together they have chemistry and are reasonably cute together but both their characters are kind of shallow and dumb. I wonder what kind of film this might have been had Rachael Leigh Cook had played the lead instead of being demoted to the best friend role and hardly any scenes on top of that. I believe she is better than that and her role doesn't do her justice. There are three performances in particular that I think really work for this film. First of all you have Penelope Ann Miller as the evil villainess who tries to pull the wool over our heroines eyes to get her own gain and she does a pretty decent (if not a little campy) job. Her and Simpson have good chemistry against each other and I think Miller actually raises the bar for Simpson's character which is a hard job. Second of all you have someone that I can't stand...Andy Dick. Remarkable Dick's brand of comedy and stupidity fits into this film like a round peg in a round hole. He is stupid and slapstick and annoying and it just seems to be the perfect role for him and he actually comes across as funny for the most part. Finally Larry Miller, who I think is a terrific character actor (amazing in 10 Things I Hate About You), plays high powered business boss Ronald Connelly. Nobody plays neurotic and nervous like Larry and he's really good in this role. An honorable mention to the red haired stranger Mr. Willie Nelson who makes his second Willie/Jessica appearance her as Pap Paw (you will wanna punch Jessica Simpson after hearing her say this a million times.) He's kind of creepy and doesn't really play any role other than Willie Nelson with Jessica Simpson. You can say what you will about me and what I think of this film but it's campiness, it's syrupy sweet tone, it's moments of cuteness and even its genuinely funny parts made me actually warm up to it. I mean if you go into it determined to hate every moment then you will but if you go into it with an open mind, expecting to have a little brainless fun then the core idea and cast is not bad at all. There are some really funny, and memorable moments and I DO think somehow in the future this will end up a cult classic on Jessica Simpson's resume and I still don't think she's a bad actress necessarily, I just don't think anyone has given her the right part but I could be wrong. Until then I will hold out indefinitely for Blonde Ambition 2: Katie and Pap Paw's revenge. 7.5/10 **************** NOTEToday on Tuesday January 22/2008 star of big screen hits Heath Ledger passed away in his home. I just want to wish his family, his daughter, and Michelle Williams and all his friends my deepest sympathy and I always believed he was destined to be a big star. I will most certainly miss his work.
