"Beautiful Bitch" is a German 100-minute movie from almost 10 years ago. It was a bit of a breakthrough film for lead actress Katharina Derr, even if this is probably still her most known performance to this date. For writer and director Martin Theo Krieger, this was the last work as a filmmaker so far. I am not sure if he is retired now. Anyway, his film here is about a teenage girl who is a professional thief early on and faces the dark sides of life as an immigrant in Germany. She gets in trouble with the wrong people, but also meets some people who genuinely seem to like her, even if the initial reaction wasn't entirely positive either. All in all, I believe this is a decent film for the most part. There are 2 or 3 occasions, during which it wasn't working or cringeworthy in terms of the script or acting, but overall it is an interesting story and I felt for the main character. I guess that has more to do with Derr fitting the role nicely than with truly great acting. Admittedly, her face expressions weren't too many in this movie. On the other hand, I thought the actress who plays her best friend did a pretty good job and this is even higher to rate as she did not appeal to me physically. What I liked about the film was that it was unclear for a very long time who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. Krieger includes some nice shades here, a lot more than black and white and it was unclear where exactly the film was heading. A couple surprises included, some truly shocking ones at times. I feel kinda sorry to see Krieger is not doing any new movies apparently. I can see solid talent in here and overall I have seen many German films from recent years with worse scripts. It is not great by any means or best-of-year material, but a very tolerable watch for the most part and I recommend it. Thumbs up.

View MoreSo I saw this movie at a German film festival because... well, it was the most appealing of all to be honest, but I was quite happy with my choice. The story is set around Bica who happens to be a teenage thief (because of poverty) under the "protection" of Cristu a former police man turned to crime for God knows what reason, also important to the story is her once victim of crime, a pretty girl named Milka that after some fortunate event she becomes her best friend, also there's Micu who's another kid under the tutelage of Cristu as a thief and of course there's Bica's Love interest Andrej.Let's go an say that the style of the movie is not quite set to be controversial, of course it's a strong movie but it doesn't look like it from the first time seeing it, I mean, there's stronger flicks that share the style (like "The heart is deceitful above all things " or even "kids") but that doesn't mean it's a bad movie. The direction is smooth and straight to the point, nothing too fancy or too confusing, you always know what the director wants you to see and it's logical, it's self explanatory and it works well, period. The acting is incredibly well done all around, sometimes I forgot I was watching a movie just because I got so dragged into the story and photography which is set to make you feel like it could be in Germany, Poland or in any other country around the world.I only have one complaint though and it's the use of some German hip hop song at the end of the movie that I feel (and this is a completely personal opinion) that it was kinda shoe-fit into it, an instrumental piece would have worked better in my opinion, but again, that's just me.To sum it all up, it's a good movie, it's a good story that doesn't feel that slow and if you have the chance and you want a "reality" movie then this is a good choice.$0.02
... View MoreI just came from a sneak-preview of this movie and I found it very clear and soulful! I do not speak German very well, however, this was not a deterrent in watching the movie in German, as the acting was very good, meaningful, nothing very dramatic and extremely to the point. The story line is very well adapted, although there are some loose ends here and there and the screenplay is exciting especially with the character development of the kids in the flat living with the (wretched) man, earning a living through stealing and giving away almost all the money to him! It is quite a real-life portrayal of such type of crimes which still exists in a developed country like Germany.I must recommend it to everyone who wants to feel for the people who are victims of such terrible crimes and maybe some eyes open to seeing the unfairness that exists all over.Again, very well made and definitely a must watch!
