A tale of four generations of men, all of whom have had their offspring at a young age: a great-grandfather, a grandfather, a father in his twenties and a son who is about 7 years old. When the oldest member passes away, the trio heads out on the road together in the Southwest to search out an old family secret that connects to their past.

Banal, confusing, with a seemingly endless stream of lame histrionics. The actors appear to be sleepwalking. A tiresome one-note piece of crap.Caine manages to camp it up dutifully. Even more than usual, Walken appears to be impersonating a corpse. The score is annoying and irrelevant. The narrative contains not a single amusing scene. The whole mélange is an insult to the creative and productive act.So unremittingly awful that only those seeking a near-death experience should even consider it. Rigor mortis will set in quickly. It will drive anybody in search of even a tincture of human sensibility Around the Bend. Not even with Monopoly money, folks.

I found this in a video store and with the great cast (not always a good indicator!) and the list of awards won I took a chance on it being good. As is often the case when you have little expectation you are most pleasantly surprised. I thought the characters were wonderful the setting and photography beautiful and the soundtrack really made it. There are also nice little touches where an item seen in a passing shot has a connection to something later in the film. The only weakness I felt was Josh Lucas in the role of the child's father. It was hard to make any genetic connection with the characters played by Michael Caine or Christopher Walken. It's not that his acting was poor he just didn't seem to fit in. Please try and see the movie - I doubt that you'll be disappointed.

If you cannot enjoy the value of a film with mixed views on death and how, why, when, what, for and how we deal with it, don't bother. If you can, be ready for a really enjoyable film. The tune, mixed with the film in "8" on the CD is enough to make you know these guys are right on time.I'm not giving the film away by telling you too much but if you read what I've said and view it because of it... you know how I see and all movies I comments will only give you what you need to make your own decision.Family gets together to see to an old mans wishes upon his death be done.Involves peeing on ashes so MNBSFW.

What a wonderful and thoughtful movie! I initially rented it solely on the strength of the cast. Michael Caine, Christopher Walken, what more could you ask for? As it turns out, one of my favorite characters turned out to be "Zach", the youngest son. This young actor is absolutely edible in this role. He has a charming quirkiness and is sooooo endearing.Walken, playing the tormented soul who left his son when his son was but a child, is actually a sympathetic character. Michael Caine was compelling as a father who wants more than anything to bring his family back together. In an age of "chick flicks", it is so refreshing to see a "man movie" that sensitively deals with father-son relationships. Though it is rated R, it barely warrants that rating. I would have no problem allowing my 14 year old sons to watch it and possibly even my 12 year old daughter. Actually, the brief horror movie scene is the worst part!
