Amateur Porn Star Killer 2 (2008)* (out of 4)The second film in writer-director Shane Ryan's series finds himself back playing the serial killer Brandon who lures a young woman (Kai Lanette) into a hotel room where they're supposed to make a porn movie but his plans include killing her.It seems this series has many people who hate it but I actually enjoyed the first movie and thought it was rather disturbing but extremely well-made. The original film had a very simply plot but director Ryan did an extremely good job bringing it to life and it managed to work. Sadly, the same can't be said for this sequel, which is a pretty big mess. I will say, however, that Ryan at least did a good job in the acting department and I thought Lanette was also good in her role. There are all sorts of problems with this film, which is basically just a remake of the first one. What made the original film work so well is that it really did feel like you were watching a real snuff film of a woman being brutally raped and murdered by a serial killer. The same can't be said with this movie because there's a music score that adds nothing and there are all sorts of experimental filters and colors going on here. The experimental nature makes it clear that there's a "director" behind the camera operating everything and this simply ruins the snuff film appeal of the first movie. The biggest problem is that the film is just downright dull as well. Just check out the opening sequence, which seems to drag on forever as we see various women being filmed by the killer. There are flashback scenes here that add nothing to the picture and in all honesty they're not all that memorably filmed. AMATEUR PORN STAR KILLER 2 sadly just never works and in the end we're left with a boring movie.
... View MoreMuch the same set-up as the original, Amateur Porn Star Killer, but quite a different film due to the absence of the 'little girl' element and the introduction of a more knowing and initially complicit 'victim'. Difficult to watch but hypnotic nevertheless with its crazy editing and beguiling images. Here the lady in tow is clearly up for some rough sex and Kai Lanette gives an amazingly believable performance. The flashbacks to previous rapes and killings continually disrupt the 'main event' but contribute to the 'realness' and force us to struggle to stay with the reprehensible but irresistible continuing action. Much more explicit than the first and unlike others I don't have a problem with that. Sure a film can be made without nudity and a film involving sex without hardcore but give the man a break if he wants to show some sex with his violence, this simply makes it even more realistic for me.
... View MoreThese are disturbing movies (in a good way). The first is better in the way that originals usually are: small, innovative and original.ASPK2 is good. Ryan has come a long way in marrying visuals and audio (I've seen his early work), and the flashbacks and broader scope of Brandon works well here.I wasn't completely sure the sex was real in the first film. I heard it was, thought I saw things... and in this one there is no denying it. I literally almost puked when Brandon continues to rape the girl after she's dead (complete with genital close ups). This fact is what knocks these movies down for me. Telling an engaging story, masterfully pulling you into what often seems real, while making strong social comments only to undermine it all with real sex? Aside from boosting DVD sales, I don't see the point. The real sex cheapens everything. The girl's hair could've been covering what was seen while her head bobbed; angles and thrusts could've replaced penetration shots. The fact you made these choices makes me question your motivation and in the least blurs (if not obliterates) what you're trying to say.I don't have a problem with a movie about a serial killer videoing how he humiliates, rapes and murders young women. I enjoy the approach and the presentation is wonderful. I just see no need for real sex.Shane, these are decent movies (minus real sex), and you've shown yourself to be a talented filmmaker... you're better than you are allowing yourself to be.Despite this and my deep-rooted objection to your choice for real sex, I am glad to see a fellow UGF person from back in the day doing well. I just hope that in the future you challenge yourself by not taking such a low road (not in the subject matter or story, but choices like sex).If it wasn't a smut film pretending to be a snuff film, I'd give it 7.

View MoreThe movie is kind of hard to watch, not necessarily because of the x-rated content, but because the shaky hand-cam and odd conversations that don't seem to go anywhere.I could do without the hardcore pornography, watching the director get a blowjob and penetrating the female kind of ruined the whole 'film' aspect and steered it towards simulated rape porn. That being said, the acting was pretty good, very believable. The black and white grainy look works well, with the exception of the few scenes with camera effects which get annoying. The music is good, and accompanies the movie well.Overall, the film works pretty well but anticlimactic at the end, worth watching if you're interested in seeing violent rape/abuse, I probably wouldn't see #3 unless some changes were made. Particularly, I wished there was more to the main 'hand-cam' part of the movie, with makes up about 95% of the movie.Main complaint is the porn aspect, not necessary and took away from the film, maybe an excuse for the director to get his dick on screen, who knows, I'd rather watch porn.
