Ichiro Miki is a child living in the industrial district of Kawasaki, where his parents' constant struggle to make ends meet often leaves the schoolboy alone. Constantly teased by a bully nicknamed Gabara, his only friends are toy consultant Shinpei and fellow classmate Sachiko. Ichiro turns to escapist dreams of Monster Island where he befriends the equally bullied Minilla.

Although these Japanese monster films are so cartoonish they're really quite lovable even when they're bad. Such is the case with All Monsters Attack which was specifically aimed for kids. Young Ichiro who's about 6 or 7 is a shy kid picked on by a kid named Gabara. Ichiro loves all those monster films and he identifies with Godzilla. He also gets involved in a Home Alone type situation with a pair of bank robbers.'But the best parts of the film are the imaginary sequences where the kid is on Monster Island where all the monsters hang out after they've done their thing on Japan in their various films. It's there that Ichiro meets Minara, Godzilla's son who speaks dubbed English. It's seeing how Godzilla handles a family bullying crisis with another monster called Gabara where little Ichiro learns some life lessons. These films are carrtoonish and childish, but this one is the first I've found marketed for kids. It's even more lovable.

I remember seeing this on Creature Double Feature as a kid and it was always a favorite every time they showed it. The story is actually pretty cute, involving a boy with a vivid imagination who wishes himself to Monster Island so he can hang out with his sorta-imaginary-friends, Godzilla & Co. (Although one wonders, when the kid is running for his life from some of the less-friendly monsters, just what the heck he was thinking when he wished himself there!) My kid brother and I thought the baby-Godzilla-thing was a riot, blowing his smoke rings.I tried to find this movie again as an adult but had some trouble because the Godzilla films keep changing titles. Finally I ran across it on streaming. It was okay from a nostalgia point of view... I can't really say I "liked" it, but I liked watching it for old time's sake. (Would have been more fun if my brother were still living; we could have had quite the evening with the help of a few beers.) But I honestly didn't remember that Minya talks! He has a goofy Mortimer-Snerd voice in the English dub... goodness knows what he sounded like in the original Japanese-language version, but I have to hope it was better than this. Not recommended unless you have a soft spot in your heart for 1960's Japanese kitsch, little boys in short-shorts, actors in awkward rubber suits, and bad dubbing, but if you do you might have a pretty good time with this one. Beats the numerous movies where space aliens figure into the monster plot.

The best Godzilla movie is the remake from 1998. The worst Godzilla movie is this one pooh. Maybe you don't think so. That's OK. But if your mad about it get over it you pee pee pooh pooh heads. This is the tenth Godzilla movie. The main character is a little boy who is a fan of the Godzilla movies. He imagines he goes to monster island and meets Godzilla and makes friends with him. Pooh pooh. So Godzilla look like how he does in the first 22 Godzilla movies. So it's a guy in campy rubber suit and bad J.a.s.p.a.n.e.s.e actors big deal. If you think this better then Godzilla (1998) that's your problem not mine. I would rather watch good movies. Like the Eighth Godzilla movie Son of Godzilla, or the ninth Godzilla movie Destroy all monsters, or the eleventh Godzilla movie Godzilla vs the Smog monster which talk place in world go Godzilla not a Godzilla fan. It's not even a real Godzilla movie. It's a big pile of Godzilla pooh.

Okay, i understand why a lot of you HATE this movie. Its dumb, its weird, it almost makes fun of Godzilla. But, to be honest, it really works for me. While the kid can be annoying, i cant help but feel sorry for him and what this kid is going through, because, well...I did the same. There is a true tragedy to kids who end up imagining a friend/friends to play with, and it can damage kids if it continues. And i can really feel it wright here. And yes, the stock footage is annoying, but beyond that i have no problems. There is so much heart in this movie, these are some of my favourite characters in a Godzilla movie yet. And while i love the tragedy of it, i also think a lot of the comedy is great. The thieves are hilarious. But i guess where it failed was in the monster department and that WILL damage a Godzilla movie. But if you look at it, not as a monster movie, but as a normal kids movie with Godzilla in it, its actually a masterpiece. Okay, maybe not a masterpiece, but still great.
