22 Bullets Trailers

Charly Matteï has turned his back on his life as an outlaw. For the last three years, he's led a peaceful life devoting himself to his wife and two children. Then, one winter morning, he's left for dead in the parking garage in Marseille's Old Port, with 22 bullets in his body. Against all the odds, he doesn't die...

If you don't speak or understand French, don't watch this movie. The translation in the subtitles is atrocious. Seems like the translator couldn't speak a lick of French or knew very little English.Movie starts out OK but bogs down trying to justify too much Jean Reno's role as Charlie, a nice man with high morales that just happens to have been (focus on the pas tense) a vicious mob boss. Good story, and Jean Reno keeps it moving in the last 30 minutes. I kinda hoped that the lady detective would play a more active role and at least killed somebody, but at least she didn't meddle too much in Charlie's payback.

For decades the Americans were the pioneers when it came to making gangster movies. From The old James Cagney movies all the way up to the obvious Scorsese flicks. The Brits had their day thanks to some entertaining Guy Richie movies but over the last couple of years there is a new Don Corleone of the film world and that's the French.Films like La Haine , A Prophet and Mesrine are some of the best gangster movies i have seen in recent years and 22 Bullets is just as good as these.I love watching Jean Reno . He has such an interesting face. A cross between Robert De Niro and Silverster Stallone and quite frankly a better actor than both. ( well at least anything De Niro has done in the last 15 yrs). This is a gangster movie in the purest sense. Violence , death , revenge and immorality - everything you would want from the genre. This film looks fantastic . The acting is of the highest quality and the story is gripping , if not a little predictable.22 Bullets was so much better than i was expecting and i recommend it if you enjoy gangster movies such as Jean Reno's most famous movie , Leon.

Cliché'd, slowly paced and terribly inaccurate firearm behaviour goofs. I'm all for purposeful silliness but when this is tries to be a "Bourne" film at the same time as a man surviving 22 close range bullet wounds without any serious injuries, as well as using the usual wooden doors for cover later on - that gets to me. Suffers from dumb-mobsters syndrome too. Plot and acting was just enough to stop me from getting too bored before the end. Not a badly made film if you are looking for a run-of-the-mill revenge movie but if you have watched any number of movies in this genre before, this will seem very familiar with not much originality to offer. See "Man on fire" (2004) for a great alternative.

Jean Reno is...simply Jean Reno. If you do not like his acting, don't waste your time with this gangster film. If you do appreciate him and if you are familiar with the area around Marseille and, even better, if you like Marseille, this film is a must. If you know French and appreciate dialects, watch this film. The feel-good (in relative terms..there is nothing mentioned about PTSD here...) ending does not hurt, I was waiting for half the film for the revenge and for Charley Matteï do save his family.I was also wondering if the place on the coast where he hid was the same as used in "La Grand Bleue" (remember one of the first major films with Jean Reno?). Would be a funny wink if it was.
