Watched E1 and half way of E2. To fantastic for me. The guy wires up the car with a fake bomb? The guy plants hidden cameras? The guy falls off the train ramp at exactly the exact time a train is coming? Things like that make it poor directing or writing or something. I mean, it's like a batman comic. The CIA would have a hard time pulling this stuff off.
... View MoreI'm going to put in a good word for The Tunnel. Yes, I enjoyed The Bridge first, but The Tunnel stands on its own. The scripts are good, the direction is good, the locations are good, and the characters and their relationships are especially well drawn. Of course, the whole thing is held together by the close friendship between the two lead characters, played by Clemence Poesy and Stephen Dillane. They both deserve awards for their performances. So, after watching the end of season 3, it's not only sad that they will not only be absent from our screens in future, but it's an added sadness that the UK is leaving the EU so that this kind of cross-channel cooperation may be scaled back. It was great to see French and English police forces getting on well and cooperating with investigations. Many crime series go beyond their watch-by date, but this finished at least one series too soon. I'm going to miss Elise and Karl.
... View MoreWell, if you haven't noticed by now in this French/UK connection there seems to be an eerie, other worldly (both fig & lit) resemblance to "The Bridge" with it's Swedish/Danish connection. The connection extends further in that both series have a pair of detectives one of which is female (Elise/Saga). Furthering this resemblance pairing both have some Aspergers type behaviors. Both are accompanied by a slightly polar opposite male detective. Both series take advantage of recent events in solving the current vogue of criminal activities as well as old standards. As an aside I think Saga, "The Bridge" seems to more authentically maintain her Aspergers behaviors through out a series, but just a picky point. Both series do an excellent job of making the viewer feel as if present and a part of the investigative process.
... View MoreI was intrigued from the onset of this series when I saw that "In Bruges" Clemence Posey was playing a different and much meatier role here as a cop. Together with the male lead they carry off their respective roles effectively. The plot had me interested the whole way through and the story is well told. However watch this before you watch the original Scandanavian The Bridge which The Tunnel copies literally verbatim. Although Posey plays her role well the Swedish actress is in a class of her own in this much darker drama. Watch both but watch The Tunnel first.
