Simon Roberts (Robin Williams) is the wild inventive advertising icon and he's working with his organized proper daughter Sydney (Sarah Michelle Gellar). They are still working on their father-daughter relationship. Also working in the firm are the ladies man Zach (James Wolk), the nerdy Andrew (Hamish Linklater), and the flaky assistant Lauren (Amanda Setton). It's the return of Robin Williams to TV and this role is tailor made for him. He's quite good in this where they allow him that free flowing humor that is his bread and butter. SMG does a good job as his slightly uptight daughter. The supporting cast is all there. However Robin's schtick does wear a little thin as the season went on. They added Brad Garrett late in the season to spice things up. I'm not sure it achieved anything. It got canceled after one full season. I wish the network would give Williams a little more leeway especially since he seems to have the support early on.
... View MoreI put the failure of this show directly on Kelley's shoulder. It may make some bank, and its insipidly inane enough enough to gain traction on the mostly senile audience which is CBS ( see Two Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, & the lets beat a dead horse show: 2.5 Men,). Sure, CBS would be foolish to pass up a Kelley pitch for a new show, he has had a solid career. Sure, the producers would be foolish to pass up Robin Williams. With a career that encases "Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire, Awakenings, and Good Will Hunting" along with historical stand-up that goes back to the 70's Troubadour, and Mork & Mindy, like him or not, thats a resume just about any performer would be proud to have. But just as Robin lost his mojo when got sobered up, so has Kelley when he didn't change with the 2010's. The show is plastic and one-dimensional with no dynamics or climax. The supporting characters are annoying, weak and vapid. Once again, we get another sitcom based in the ad-agency world, which resembles nothing to the ad-agency world, which I could have forgiven had the show been more likable and credible, and the supporting cast ( which has experience) be more supportive and less self-aware. The only few bright moments are Williams ad-libs, but even those are watered-down for prime-time, and draw from a less inspired place.
... View MoreThe first two episodes of "The Crazy Ones" were not so good, but after the second one, it gets better and better every week. It has it's really funny moments and bloopers at the end of every episode is also a great idea. My favorite episode so far is "The Face Of A Winner" (1x13), which was laughing-out-loud funny and incredibly original.Sarah Michelle shines in this series and the cast has great chemistry together, which is kinda hard to find these days on TV. I never was a familiar with Robin Williams work until now, so I was surprised how good actor he is. Really hope "The Crazy Ones" gets another season and keeps up the good work. :)
... View MoreI'm not a fan of sit-com, but decided to give it a shot because I absolutely love Sarah Michelle Gellar and I think Robin Williams is a really good actor, so I was curious about it. Now, five episode in and I love it!! The pilot was so funny I watched it five or six times the same day and I couldn't stop laughing. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams totally SLAYED it, and even though I'd never seen the rest of the cast before, I liked them straight away. The pilot was something quite refreshing and funny, and I couldn't wait to see more. I gotta say my favorite episodes so far are The Pilot, e3 Bad Dad and e5 She's so European. e3 Bad Dad got me bursting into laughter while I was having lunch, I almost chocked on my spaghetti, because there were a few situations that really reminded me of me. Not gonna say what situations they were, don't want to give you any spoilers, but I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard, so I definitely recommend watching this show. The cast is really good, there's good chemistry on the set, and I love it. One more thing that I like is that there is no annoying laughter in the background: it always just makes me mad when people laugh and I don't find it funny. I can just laugh whenever I want, and trust me, I laugh much more than with any other sit-com. I love that Robin plays a wacky Simon, while Sarah is his down to earth daughter Sydney, who occasionally shows her crazier side. Them two make a great team and I just can't wait to see what crazy things they'll come up with. This show really deserves 10 stars, and many more seasons!
