I am a devoted SG fan. I love them all. They have served their purpose in my life But that one completely reflect my dreams. I want it to be be different from all the others because that is what makes it charming. I wish for less love drama (eek!), more thrilling discoveries and dynamic events! Above all I wish you to continue it with EXACTLY the same crew!<3 SD

I watched MOST, but not all SG1 with my kids, 13 and 11 (I watched first to make sure it's appropriate). SGU has not related to actions adult content and suggesting that sexual relations are more important than the work to be done. The characters don't answer their communication devices because they are involved in sex during work hours. There is no morale, no care for professional relations on the board. I went trough the first CD, in the middle of the second one to preview while my kids are out, and so far, almost all the scenes are in the darkness. Depressing music, depressing pictures. No funny characters, like O'Neill was. Instead, ever arguing youth trying to look smart. SGU is simply boring so far. I am not watching anymore. I will watch SG1 instead, again, then start Atlantis.

Went back to watch a borrowed DVD Set 1 for the first time recently; I made it through the 1st 3 episodes, gagging most of the way, and finally gave up. It was a good concept to start with and it could have been brilliant; then they totally wasted the opportunity. The scripts are mediocre to awful. As another reviewer states, its like a mashup of the worst parts of Battlestar Galactica and Days Of Our Lives - endlessly boring personal dramas. I CANNOT figure out who this was aimed at - young teen girl Taylor Swift fans and young teen boys addicted to video games perhaps? In retrospect I wonder why they didn't just go ahead and also work in a character that's a busty pop superstar, who could do the occasional music video in between manufactured emergencies - it wouldn't make any less sense that anything else going on.

TLDR - I enjoyed this show. It is in my top 3 of all time shows.I've never seen the original SGs so I have no comparison to make with them; my review is only of this show and not relative to the other shows.Plot: The premise of the show is quite sound - each episode is part of a larger story *as* *well* *as* containing a self-contained plot. The existence of Stargates and an unknown destination is established in the pilot so people new to the show hit the ground running (so to speak) and from the second episode on-wards the plot moves along at decent pace. I never got bored, plot-wise, and they never deus ex machinima'ed their way out of a plot hole because there weren't any (not that I could see, anyway). There's a lot of action, too, so no chance of boredom.Characters: The characters are well-crafted and the actors all do a great job bringing them to life. The character interactions are believable and shrouding (some) of their motivations in mystery adds a little zest to the interactions. I've come to love each of the characters for their individual qualities - in too many shows all the characters are so similar I am sometimes unable to tell them apart. In SGU the characters don't all blur into a few generic characters that you'll have trouble differentiating.Production: This is a highly polished show, given that it's made for TV - the CGI is great and the atmosphere for each scene is set quite nicely. The camera-work is great (no "shaky-cam" to simulate action) and they very often manage to create epic shots to match the story-line.Overall: I'd give this a 10/10 if I thought IMDb included outliers in the final number. I saw both seasons 1 & 2 (boxed-set gift from my wife who wanted to get something sci-fi-ish for me) and pretty soon started binge-watching.Some episode endings are so good I literally could not wait to see the next one and simply hit 'next' on the DVD remote. The best part for me is that this is one of the few sci-fi shows I've seen (another one is Person of Interest) that deal with dramatic issues in a subtle way. I hate getting preached at and having the 'message' beaten into me via sheer repetition, but I love shows *with* a message.People forget that science-fiction is not about the fictional science, but about humanity. The fictional science is simply to serve as a tool to speculate on humanity's qualities. In too many sci-fi shows the focus is on fictional science, or on the action. In SGU it's on the society that forms in response to the pressure experienced by the environment (so, yeah, lots of action too :-)). SGU is a rare show, and (considering I have the DVD) I'll probably want to re-watch it again in a year or two.The only negative point of SGU is the cancellation after only 2 seasons. It's a negative because they still had quite a lot of runway left in this show, and it's unfortunate that they threw away the chance to explore the society in SGU more thoroughly. This was a very interesting show, and my time watching it was not wasted. I wish they had not canceled it.
