I remember first watching this American show, back in my early years of high school. I really used to fancy Maureen Flanagan, who played Evie. The plot centered around Evie who inherited alien powers on her 13th birthday and from then on could stop time by joining her two fingers together. One of the regular guests bobbing in to the Garland household was "mayor Applegate" played by the late Doug McClure. Not normally being a fan of American sit-coms, i was surprised at how much i enjoyed this show, and how all the major characters, Donna Garland (Evie's mother) uncle Beano, Steve and Buzz made an integral part of the show and i always felt sad for Evie ( i was only 11 or 12 at the time) because she never quite got to meet her alien dad!!! A classic show that should be repeated!!!
... View MoreOut Of This World Revolves around the lives of the Garlands, Troy lives in outer space on Antarius married to Donna who lives on Earth with their Daughter Evie, and Donna's Uncle Beano. On her 13th Birthday, Donna tells Evie that her father does not work for the Government but is actually an alien from another planet. She learns after that that she has the ability to Freeze Time and later develops other powers and just like other teens dealing with their crazy mixed up teenage years, so does Evie. The big difference is that when Evie gets mad at her mom she can freeze her and walk away (most teens would want that power, I'm Sure). Add in a few thought challenged friends, a lot of power-mis-hap's, and u have 96 funny episodes of a 1/2 hour comedy show that started the new "Sabrina" craze! Before Out Of This World, any television characters that had powers were usually adults with the exception of Tabitha from "Bewitched", who only used her powers once in a great while. Evie is and will always be the #1 Alien-human mix in my book of television history!
... View MoreI alway remember I had a HUGE crush on Maureen Flanagan when I first saw Out of this World! It was shown in the morning on ITV and I remember I always watched it avidly! Sitting with a mid morning snack and a cup of Irn Bru (I am actually blushing as I write!) I loved the fact that this foxy girl could do magic, and the fact that it was to do with aliens just made me more intent. I also remember Doug MacClure as the mayor, having seen him in a variety of Dinosaur- Cavemen Movies the very fact that this man was also on TV made the young Andy Lamb watch with a combination of amazement and wonder! Ah the joys of youth! I only wish I could find it on DVD now to see if the old saying is true that, " The Memory Cheats" a la "The Tomorrow People" and "Blakes Seven"
... View MoreI was only 8 years old when this programme appeared on the TV screens in 1989 over here in the UK. Looking back at it, I can remember if I'm right that each birthday Eve had, she would get a present off here father, which would give her the ability to use new powers given to her.The show sadly only lasted 4 years, but thank you for DIGITAL SATELLITE, where there are weekly runs of the programme today! One note I should point out, lookout as when the world is frozen and too see the people move ever slightly, or a simple blink, which is more noticable in series one.
