I liked this show as a kid but rewatching it as an adult I find myself not laughing at any of jokes in this show or even cracking a smile really. I don't see why people love this show as adults as it's incredibly unfunny and would only make small children laugh because their brains aren't fully developed. I mean I like stupid humor I can laugh at a fart joke but this show couldn't tell a funny joke if it's life depended on it.

One of the few channels I watched as a kid back in the 1990s was Nickelodeon, and the 90s is where the channel shined brightly because of its original quality programming for both kids and adults. One show stood out from the rest in my opinion, though The Ren & Stimpy Show came at a close second. No, the one that stood out the most to me is "Rocko's Modern Life".Created by Joe Murray, who has garnered success in the independent film industry prior to this, and debuting in 1993, this animated comedy series was genius for its social satire, lovable and original characters, and sense of style in terms of art and creativity. It was one of Nick's stand-out shows next to the likes of Ren & Stimpy and Rugrats, eventually receiving an Emmy. After the show's success, Murray would later create another Emmy-winning series "Camp Lazlo", only it would be aired on Nickelodeon's rival channel, Cartoon Network. Today, Rocko has garnered a cult following and is hailed as one of the most memorable cartoons of the era. So the question is, does it still hold up?First, the plot of the whole series. Rocko is a wallaby (a kangaroo-like marsupial) rumored to be in his 20s who moved from Australia to the fictional and wacky city of O-Town in order to try and live a normal, modern American lifestyle with his loyal dog Spunky, his best friends Heffer, a steer, and Filburt, a turtle, and finally his grumpy neighbors the Bigheads, both of which are cane toads. Normal? In a show like this? Yeah. Like that's gonna happen, which is why I use such a term loosely. Each episode of the show is riddled with slapstick, jokes for kids and adults, and social satirical commentary that represented certain events and political views. So, now that's out of the way, does the show hold up for what it accomplishes? In my opinion, it more than holds up. I love the animation, character designs and art style, and I also love the social satire that it provides. Hell, a lot of the commentary is still relevant today. For example, there is an episode in season 3 entitled "Zanzibar" that focuses on recycling and cleaning up the environment, which today is reminiscent of pretty much every "Going Green" program in existence that doesn't go to the extreme (Greenpeace, anyone?), and they do it in a musical fashion. No, I'm not kidding. This is one of my personal favorite cartoons from the 1990s, let alone one of my personal favorite television shows of all time. I myself have gotten the honor of pre-ordering the complete series from Shout! Factory and also receiving a lithograph signed by the creator himself as a bonus last year. The inner child in me is still screaming with joy. I am unsure if the show is still running in re-runs on Nickelodeon, as I don't even watch the network anymore, but if you're looking to purchase the series on DVD in the highest quality possible, your best bet is on Shout! Factory's website, as they are the only ones as of this review that have obtained the distribution rights from Viacom. It's definitely worth a purchase if you want to revisit a good part of the golden age of television animation.

When most kids at my school think of 90s Nick, they think of rugrats, hey Arnold and All That. Me: Rocko's Modern Life! Rocko' s Modern Life is one of the best cartoons of the 90's, and it deserves a lot more credit than people give it. The show focuses on the life of a talking wallaby who immigrated to America from Australia. His friends Heffer(a steer, not a cow!) and Filbert, a turtle, help him survive on his crazy adventures. The series is known for its adult humor. Every episode had "Chokey Chicken" restaurants in it. Really really big man and his magic "nipples of the future. In "the emperor's new Joe" the chameleon bros tell rocko of the city of "ballzack". The episodes "schnit-heads" and "who gives a Buck?" are pretty self explanatory. Literally every episode has sexual humor in it. There is a banned episode called "leap frogs" where rocko's neighbor Mrs bighead tries to have sex with him. One episode I think is worse than leap frogs is the episode "Flu-In-U-Enza", a rarely talked about episode. The episode has blood splatter, a guy dies from smoking a cigarette, doctor bend-ova literally grabs rocko's balls three times, a hot dog rips off rockos scalp and the moment that made my jaw drop was one that challenged even Ren and Stimpy. Rocko got high off a butt pill then barfs in a toilet. My god, who gave this show a TV-Y rating. Does that description even sound like its from a kids show? This show really should be rated TV-PG, it rivals PG shows like Ren and Stumpy and Regular Show despite being rated TV-Y. I will never understand why it has its current rating. But that's one of the reasons I enjoy Rocko so much, now as a teenager I get all the jokes that flew over my head. This show is even an ancestor for several shows today. Spongebob and camp lazlo are made by the same crew and more than 10 shows have some link to this show. The guys who play heffer and Filbert on rocko play sponge bob and plankton. But this show trumps them all and in my opinion one of the best cartoons of the 90s. And I don't know why so many people think this is a "Ren and stimpy ripoff". This show has anthropomorphic animals as the people of earth, while Ren and stimpy are anthropomorphic pets in a world with people in it. Well Ren and Stimpy is a Tom and Jerry ripoff because it also has two anthropomorphic pets in a human world also. Also so the idea for Rocko started in the late 80s before Ren and stimpy came out. They are both great shows but come on, rocko deserves better than that.I also cannot believe how underrated this gem is. And I have never heard anyone talk about this show, its all sponge bob this and rugrats that. I wish more people knew about this show, it better than ANY cartoon that came after it. It is funnier than that overrated family Guy, that's for sure. It must have been 10 years last time I saw this on Nick, which really breaks my heart. Im also sad at what Nick has become, basically a second Disney channel. I wish they would show classic series like this instead of icarly, all these kids have is sponge bob and a bunch of tween girly crap. Rocko's Modern Life should be revived, it would probably be a major success!10/10 ROCKOS MODERN LIFE!

The first time Rocko's extent of his nobalwit is shown. and a not bad explanation by Filbert as its happening.the fight between Rocko and the Big Heads is one of the best scenes in Old Foggy Froggy. not to mention most other scenes in RML are still great throughout. excellent work in of music! personally I'm a Movie/DVD artist, that edits TV shows and add music to make certain scenes... better. i cant do it with RML because its already perfect, in everyway! espessically in The Lounge Singer.great humor was worked in to it at opposite times, without looseing focus of the situration of that the characters were in at the time. highly recommended
