I happened to come across this show while looking for a rating on Magic Mike. Needless to say, I decided to give the pilot a go and immediately fell in love with this period piece. The acting is on point, the clothing and use of cars of the period grabbed my attention. The script is well written with all the characters well developed and the casting brilliant. You are swept up in the building of the story to see if good and conflicted will triumph over bad and evil in each of the characters. I do believe that this show had a season 3 and 4 in it and I would have offered my services. Very sad to see it cancelled surely another channel like HBO could pick it up.

I wish the current owners of the Fontainebleau (The Soffer's aka Turnberry Realty) would have let this show state the real name of this hotel, not this Miramar Playa hooey. Everything about the lobby, golden staircase to nowhere and the exterior curved shape, and swiss cheese holes in the walls, scream Morris Lapidus MiMo design right from the 'bleau. Ike Evans character even mentions walking guests to the Eden Roc hotel, which is next door to the FB. This show really hit's home to the reality of what it's like to work at this type of hotel. I especially liked the episodes with James Caan. I met him at the Fontainebleau hotel at Don Soffer's wedding, and he brings such an authenticity to the role on the show.

"Magic City" would be a wonderful addition to any networks show line up. It is a clever story line that is well written. In addition to that the acting is superb, with great chemistry between the actors. The characters are quite realistic. For example, "the butcher" - he does seem like a very intimidating and scary guy! This was a good idea that the Starz channel had. Unfortunately, the reality is many more people watch HBO and Showtime than watch Starz. I really believe that if this show had aired on either of those larger networks it would be running for many more seasons. This is a very captivating show that absolutely deserves a second chance.

An A List Attractive cast and stunningly authentic production values can't make up for a story that just isn't that interesting. A Miami hotel owner and his family and their dealing with the local mob. It started out promising but then things didn't develop in an interesting manner. The characters seemed one dimensional. Didn't feel for anyone in particular. The shady gangster dealings were really boring. The sets and costume and atmosphere are almost Mad Men standard. The actresses Jessica Marais and Olga Kurleynko are quite stunningly beautiful. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is miscast. He doesn't look slick enough for the role. Not really worth the effort.
