Simply just a really good show. No gimmicks, not corny, really good.

I was a little late to the party to finish the Longmire series, but with a very nasty spring in the Northeast, I finally was able to hunker down and watch the whole thing again from the start over the course of a week or two. I am so glad that I took the time to finally finish it. I noticed some bad reviews about the Season 6 episodes, so I was quite wary when I approached the final season....but wow, I couldn't agree less with those reviews. I thought the Season 6 episodes were just as good, that is if it didn't get actually even better with age!Great show, highly recommended.

I was a Longmire fan when it originally aired on A&E. I'm happy that Netflix picked it up, and carried it to it's conclusion. Having said that, the last three seasons were nowhere as entertaining as the first three. It fell apart for me after the last episode of season three, when one of the major characters was inexplicably killed by his father, for no obvious reason. Filmed in beautiful New Mexico, not Wyoming, which is unfortunate. I love Wyoming and there are lots of varied areas around Jackson Hole, Dubois, and Yellowstone that would have made beautiful filming locations. The last couple of seasons were comprised of a dreary arc involving a tried trope about organized crime taking over the tribal casino. The manufactured relationship between the Dr and the Sheriff had nothing in the way of chemistry, and for all the back-and-forth between Sheriff Longmire and Deputy Moretti, that relationship also felt forced. In fact, seeing how Sheriff Longmire actually treats the women in his life, it's hard to buy into the deep connection he had with his murdered wife, which is a necessary plot device for the first couple of seasons. The plot holes are numerous and hard to ignore. The county (despite the obviously well-to-do population) appears to have the highest per-capita murder rate in the US, yet only 3 (sometimes 4) uniformed law enforcement officers, and nobody working the second or third shifts. By way of contrast, the dirt-poor tribal police seems to have at least a dozen, along with many new vehicles, but despite the obvious benefits to inter-agency cooperation, the Sheriff and the Tribal police chief would rather bicker about jurisdiction. I've spent time living in areas with large tribal populations, and find the city/county police tend to work very well with the tribal police . I'd probably give the first three seasons an 8 star rating, the fourth season a 7 and the last two a 6. Still, I wanted to finish the series, and I was glad to see some character resolution by the end.

My biggest complaint is the casting, especially of Vic. In the book she's a strong feisty character but on the show she's whining and needy. Ferg doesn't fly fish enough and Henry is not enough like the book character either.
